We value that as a society.

And in general, if you're making a life altering decision, we think it's important that you have time to do so.

And so I think this is a weighty decision.

Obviously, I don't think anyone's denying that it isn't.

But I think it's particularly a weighty decision for kind of two key reasons.

first of all we obviously fought we had a hard-fought constitutional referendum on this issue and second of all if you look at the legislation um if you perform an abortion outside of the parameters that is permitted within the legislation we have in place it's a criminal offense so you know we recognize that this is an incredibly weighty decision it's not a decision that has an option

And I think we can distinguish this particular procedure from other medical procedures because it does involve a third party.

And you can look up the HSE website.

You know, they describe in detail what happens at the different weeks of development.

So week nine, it talks about a baby having a mouth and a tongue with taste buds.

So, you know, it's a weighty thing and I think our society recognises this.

So, you know, protecting the ability of a woman, I suppose, safeguarding that period of reflection.

It's a brief period, three days, but safeguarding that time of reflection, I think, is very important.

I don't see how it's infantilising women.

I think it's, and I think, you know, there's a lot of talk of crisis.

Yeah, I mean, well, I can't say I don't know what specific situations people are in and none of us do really.

I mean, well, aside from the information that's publicly available.

But I think it is protecting those people who are on the fence, perhaps, and it gives them that little bit of a safeguarded time to change their mind.

Again, we've talked about those statistics which are available and we can't say exactly what was going on in all of those cases, but I think it does point to the fact that women change their mind in that intervening period.

So I don't see this as diminishing or undermining women in any sense, but
