Property investors often talk about using debt to build wealth. In the share market, that's called gearing. With the BetaShares WealthBuilder range, investors can access moderate gearing into shares, and with the newly launched GG-BL, That means exposure to a diversified portfolio of around 1,300 global companies excluding Australia, all with no loan applications, credit checks, or margin calls. Gearing magnifies both gains and losses, so it's only suitable for investors with a very high tolerance for risk. You can learn more about the WealthBuilder range of ETFs at the BetaShares website. And don't forget to read the PDS and TMD to decide if it's right for you. BetaShares Capital Limited is the issuer.

Kate, welcome to this episode of the Australian Finance Podcast.
It's great to be back, Owen, and for a special Christmas episode.
Yep, we're recording. So if you are on YouTube, hello. I'm waving at the camera. But if you're listening, yeah, this is our Christmas discussion. A bit of a recap.
Some of our highlights from the year.
And I know that you like this time of year. It even says it right here in the notes. It's Kate's favorite time of year.
Yeah, Christmas has a special place in my heart. And we're also going to talk about some general money tips, some Christmas present ideas that mostly revolve around books. But, I mean, that's my favorite present. A little bit of things about the Christmas holidays and just talking a bit about what you can expect from us 2020 and beyond. Cool. 2021.
Oh, my gosh. It's not ready. People don't count it because we're in lockdown for six months. but i know it's like it feels like no time at all since we're recording a christmas episode last year yeah i asked you before off air if um we did the five money moves to make yeah last christmas but i don't think we did but we're gonna do them in another episode a few weeks ago i think yeah okay so um firstly let's talk about the big changes in the financial world
Yeah, so I think obviously COVID was massive this year and I think there was a massive change in technology. I mean, we saw the price of Zoom shares skyrocket overnight because suddenly everything was online and I think that was a massive change because people were suddenly realising they couldn't go to the bank branch or things like that. They had to do everything online. People were having to talk to their financial advisor over Zoom. They were having to... like people, a lot of stuff was online already, but things I think went to the next level this year.
Yeah. And you know what, from, so if I talk from an investing perspective, what really caught me off guard or not off guard, I kind of expected this, but just to say it play out was, um, people think because oh the whole world's going to be at home so therefore i should buy zoom shares right that's what they think yeah and it actually that's not actually a rational decision because it takes many many years for companies like zoom to actually benefit from that and this isn't a new thing like zoom's been around for years there's been heaps of examples like this like amazon went up a huge amount on day one because they broke all these records for sales
