What are the three biggest expenses for Australian households?

Owen Raskovich 0:00
Property investors often talk about using debt to build wealth. In the share market, that's called gearing. With the BetaShares WealthBuilder range, investors can access moderate gearing into shares, and with the newly launched GG-BL, That means exposure to a diversified portfolio of around 1,300 global companies excluding Australia, all with no loan applications, credit checks, or margin calls. Gearing magnifies both gains and losses, so it's only suitable for investors with a very high tolerance for risk. You can learn more about the WealthBuilder range of ETFs at the BetaShares website. And don't forget to read the PDS and TMD to decide if it's right for you. BetaShares Capital Limited is the issuer.

Thanks, Owen.
Owen Raskovich 2:18
What are we talking about?
Kate Campbell 2:19
Well, Owen wanted to discuss cars, mortgages and education, three slightly unrelated topics, but... They're all related because they're the three biggest things that most people, the three biggest expenses most people have in their lives. So... Yeah.
Owen Raskovich 2:34
Yep. I once heard a podcast. It's like if you can nail these three things and the rest of it sorts itself out. That's totally true. And we're going to talk about how you can make some very simple changes maybe to like your behavior or your thinking. And these things are just crushed. You just nail these things.
Kate Campbell 2:53
That's the thing. If you can control the biggest costs, then the smaller ones like having your latte don't really matter as much.
Owen Raskovich 2:59
Yeah, that's it. And yeah, so you could count up the number of lattes you could save and what that would do for your super fund. Or you could just try and sort out like your education or for your kids education and then think about that. And that might save you a lot more money. Okay. So I was thinking we could just bucket it into three different things. Yep. First one being schools and education. And I was frantically digging up some research on this. But I figured it makes sense to start with schools and education as kind of the, you know, we'll start at the preschool, primary, high school. And we can maybe just talk a little bit about uni. But I guess why don't we just jump off with preschool. And this is probably preschool slash the early stages of primary school.
Owen Raskovich 3:44
But if you ever heard the saying, show me the boy at seven and I'll give you the man. Have you ever heard that?
Kate Campbell 3:50
Yeah, I have.
Owen Raskovich 3:51
Excuse the pronouns. It could be the girl at seven and I'll show you the woman. It doesn't really matter. But the idea is that they've made a TV series about this, Seven Up.
Kate Campbell 4:01
No, I haven't heard of that.
