And then there's the conflict in Ukraine. We know that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says that he spoke with Trump actually over the weekend. They had an important conversation. He expects that there could be some change in this in this next step. He alluded to that. And then Trump took to social media earlier today. This is his latest on that conflict. And I want to read part of that to you. He said, quote, Russia has unfortunately lost control of its diesel oil industry due to its war with Ukraine. A large number of their diesel refineries have been blown up and are at least temporarily out of commission. This ridiculous and never-ending war with Ukraine must be ended. So again, Zelensky and Trump are expected to meet at some point in New York.
This comes not long after Special Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met both in Kyiv and in Moscow with leaders there. And at the time, the White House said that those talks were substantive. They also said that they would be able to give an update in the coming weeks. Then he gets back here to Washington. That's when he hosts a state visit with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. They're going to have a formal state dinner. Both are expected to give remarks. And there, a major topic, top of mind, Trump has made it clear he wants to be outpacing China when it comes to AI, even though we have heard just a growing number of concerns from lawmakers, former AI employees, and even leaders at AI companies about the rapid growth in that industry.
What can he do right now to help himself, help this country?
I think Mr. Trump, if he wants to help himself and help this country and end this war, he's going to have to find a way back to the table. You're not going to bomb the Iranians and this regime into compliance. I mean, they've proven that that's just not going to work. It's also not going to work to open up this trade of Hormuz. So you've got to have to find a credible way back to the table. The challenge with that is that the people that Mr. Witkoff and Mr. Kushner are talking to, the elected leadership, while they want to negotiate an end, are not the ones who actually have their finger on the trigger. That's literally the Revolutionary Guard and the hardliners and the Supreme Leader. So you've got to find a way to credibly get back to the table.
And that's not going to be an easy thing. Right now, it's difficult for anybody. And I'm sure the diplomats in New York are seeing this, too. Difficult for anybody to see an exit ramp here where this war can end quickly and efficiently and get the global economy back on track.
I'm really concerned, though, too, that there will be distractions because there is a very important issue in front of us. We've never had a clear path to defeat Iran. And so I'm worried that the midterms concerns and also elections concerns in Israel, that both leaders will be distracted. I think that would be a tragic mistake for historical purposes. I think we need to stay on task right now because I truly believe that if President Trump takes care of this evil now, I think God will deliver the midterms as well. I think that will happen. for the elections in Israel. I believe these men were appointed for this task, destined for this task. They're the only two leaders I can think of who would work together to defeat Iran.
