I recently ran into someone whose byline stated he was a lover of grammer—spelled g-r-a-m-m-e-r, properly-hyphenated words—he used a hyphen after an ly word, which is a violation of correct style—and the Oxford comma, where he neglected to use an Oxford comma on his list of three things.My eyes snagged on the obvious misspelling and I decided to reach out privately to let the person know his byline had a misspelling. He promptly replied that I should look more closely at his byline and that he hoped I’d catch the humor. I felt duped, stupid, and alienated.
