Bloomberg's Michael McKee tells us the meeting went pretty much as expected. No change in rates and the Fed leaves open the option of cutting rates in the future. Stephen Myron and Chris Waller dissent in favor of a rate cut. Michelle Bowman does not.
The Fed statement left the door open for more rate cuts but didn't give any hints as to when or why they might do that. Multiple news outlets are reporting those federal agents involved in Saturday's deadly shooting of a U.S. citizen in Minneapolis are now on administrative leave. Some lawmakers had called for those agents to be taken out of the field. President Trump criticized Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Fry after Fry said the city would not change its immigration policies. Trump posting on social media that Fry is, quote, playing with fire. FBI agents have executed a search warrant at the Fulton County Elections Office near Atlanta. The search comes as the FBI is pursuing the political grievances of President Trump, including investigating multiple perceived adversaries.
Trump has long insisted that the 2020 election was stolen, even though judges across the country and his own attorney general said there's no evidence of that. The dollar is clawing back yesterday's losses after Treasury Secretary Scott Besson touted the longstanding strong dollar policy in the U.S.
The U.S. always has a strong dollar policy, but a strong dollar policy means setting the right fundamentals. And I think that with President Trump, with the one big beautiful bill, with our regulatory policies, we are making this the best place to come, build your business, have tax certainty, regulatory certainty, energy certainty.
The yen sank against the dollar after Secretary Besson told CNBC the U.S. is absolutely not intervening in the market for Japan's currency. The Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index is now up 0.4%. Investors are heading into the tech earnings season, getting some clarity on AI demand and monetization. as well as capital investment guidance. We'll get Microsoft and Meta Platforms reporting after the closing bell. We do check the markets for you all day long here at Bloomberg. The S&P 500 is little changed on the downside. NASDAQ up a tenth of a percent. The Dow pretty much flat. Ten-year Treasury yield at 4.23%. The two-year yield at 3.58%. President Trump has a warning for Iran. Time is running out. The president posted on Truth Social that Tehran must make a nuclear deal with the U.S.
or face military strikes worse than the attack he ordered in June. United Nations spokesman Stefan Dujarric is appealing for calm.
