It was a pretty palatable loss to the Yankees in in late July, I would say. And I think that the biggest one is The Yankees hit three home runs. The Blue Jays did not. And it's not like the Blue Jays didn't have chances to do so. They certainly did.
They had the bases loaded. They had Vladimir Guerrer Jr. at the plate. We're gonna talk about that as well. Uh, but you've been saying it for a while now, right? Uh come postseason, come October, the one difference maker, the one thing that you can count on is that the team that outhomers the opponent is probably gonna get away with the win.
Yeah, and it's interesting. Obviously, I'm I'm not gonna sound any alarm bells off of one loss. You're not gonna beat the Yankees at home six, seven games. You're not you're not gonna do it. You're in a battle for the American League East. The New York Yankees are a very good team. Uh it's just not gonna happen for you every single time where things line up. But you look at the specifics of how you lost someone. I said it on the show yesterday, right? It's like the the smaller ball stuff, the everyone's contributing stuff, stringing hits together, getting, you know, Dan. Made the point that Heliot Ramos making that error in left field is not luck. It's the the Jays have guys who don't do that. Anthony Volpe yeeting the ball away every single game against the Blue Jays is not, you know, that that happened, but you can't rely on that necessarily to put up a big number.
And while we tend to think of single, move the guy over, clutch hit, things like that as playoff style baseball, and it is like every run. Is so important in the playoffs that if you can manufacture one, it's a big deal. But if we look at the last decade of baseball, The home run differential is the single biggest predictor. Now, the Blue Jays are not going to be, there's nothing they could do to their roster to reorient them as a home run first team. Right. But you look and they're 20th in home runs, even with the offense having turned around for two and a half months now. They're fifth in home runs allowed, like the fifth most home runs allowed.
