I said we would not come back for another one of these unless we had some news. Well, we do not the news today. I think we collectively wanted Vladimir Guerrero Jr. not signing a contract extension by this self-imposed deadline. And that has been the story of the day. One that will likely hover over the entire season. We had a reaction to it on the radio earlier today. Blair and Barker were on the air. We played the pressers on the Fan 590, our flagship station in Toronto. On this show, we played some of Vladdy's pressers, some of the Atkins presser as well. And we spoke to Jace Talk regular Nick Ashbourne, who is far smarter than I. So from earlier Tuesday afternoon, here's our reaction to the Vladdy news.

I think for me that is the aspect of all of this. That intrigues me the most. Like, what was his ask? How high did the Blue Jays go on the other side? They say they weren't close, but what does that really mean, right?
All of Vladdy, Atkins, and Shapiro, they all used the word close this morning in different ways. So what does that mean? What does close mean? But again, you tell me, what was the figure at which point you're out? on Vladdy. Text me at 590-590, name and location. We can get those on the air. I'll read as many of them as possible, whether it is the dollar figure you want to discuss or anything else Blue Jays related. For me, the line where I say, nah, we're good, is pretty high. It's like mid-500s, I would say. It's probably, again, a good thing I'm not a GM. I mean, if he's asking for 575... 600 million. Yeah, you probably have to pass even flatty. But anything below 550, I'd have done it knowing you and most likely age poorly because that's the cost of doing business, right?
How many times have we heard this offseason that that adage of if you're rational on every decision, you're never going to succeed in every decision. Now, it's usually in relation to free agents, but I think it applies here, too. But north of these numbers, I think you're getting yourself into trouble. You might also be getting yourself into trouble with the number I picked. It's just, I don't know. If you want to retain your homegrown star who is young and, you know, young players tend to test free agency much to their benefit, I think you probably had to overpay, right? Blair has said before a number of times this offseason that whatever number you think Vladdy was going to get, you take that number, you add...
