Yeah, I'm very curious to see what it means for Bo in particular, because you and I have spoken about this off air certainly, Jeff, but you know, if you have an Okamoto playing third base, 'cause I think one Vladimir Grer Jr. will have a lot to say about playing first base. So if he's gonna play third base, what does that do for Ernie Clement? What does it do for Bo? What does it do I think we imagine what it does for Andres Jimenez either way, but I am very curious to see what it does for someone like Bo.
Uh Okamoto is a twenty-nine year old third baseman. He's a right-handed hitter. Uh he profiles as exactly the type of player that would fit into the Blue Jays past the baton philosophy uh in terms of their lineup. Uh he's coming off a very good year. He did play uh he did miss half the year with an elbow injury, but his numbers uh were really good. He had a uh breakout year in twenty eighteen in terms of his power and he he really you get the impression, show from reading and talking to people about this guy, that he is a very, very advanced hitter who knows who who knows what he is about. They talk about things like his bat speed and his you know his ability to manipulate the bat and I'm sure the Jays have done a deep, deep deep deep deep deep deep analytical dive into this.
He really does profile the type of guy who's gonna have a lot of significant playing time for this organization.
Yeah, he walked as often as he struck out last year. And to your point about the injury short in twenty twenty five, that's true. Uh even in two hundred and ninety three plate appearances, his strikeout rate dropped to eleven point three percent. I mean, that's Ross Atkins has gotta love that kind of stat.

And and you know, you anytime a player makes a transition from the Japanese League or the Korean league, the question is always, all right, what you know, what skills will he bring with him? What numbers in that league will translate well into the major leagues? I mean, that's always a uh kind of a difficult situation or or a difficult thing to assess. But clearly in terms of plate discipline, ability to track pitches, things of that nature, you would have to think that that would travel uh into into the major leagues and and um you know look we know he's a third baseman he's played some first base he might be able to play the outfield We know the Blue Jays like versatility. Uh, and but you're right.
The question I think most Jays fans have now is what does this mean for the rest of the free agent class? Because we knew the Jays were going to be active in free agency show. That that was obvious. I don't know if we necessarily thought the Jays would be active at this level in free agency, kind of a mid tier free agent, if you want to call them that. Uh so a lot of Jays fans, I mean I don't know if I'm going Going on social media, the second the signing was announced, the reaction was okay, what does this mean for Bo? What does this mean for Kyle Tucker? And uh maybe we'll get a little uh we'll get a little insight into that today from uh Ross Atkins as uh the Jays formally unveil uh their newest player.
Four years, sixty million dollars uh according to roster resource that takes the Blue Jays twenty twenty.
