It's the Boomer and Geo podcast from WFAN. Hi, Boomer and Geo coming to you live from the Build Forward Tough studio on the Fan and CBS Sports Network. Red Pocket Mobile fan line brought to you by your new ultimate cell carrier, Red Pocket Mobile. And that number to join the show as always, 888-808-1019. Final four is set. Baseball season underway. Knicks end up losing to the Thunder last night. But we just await sort of the postseason situation there. And if you're an Islanders guy, man, you've got to be fired up for tonight against the Pittsburgh Penguins. All right, let's get some calls in now. Let's go to Raj in New Providence. What's going on, Raj? Hey, good morning, guys. How are you doing today?
Unknown 0:47
Great, Raj. Big UConn fan, and Gia, you'd appreciate this. I missed the entire game because it was my son's fourth birthday party, so I couldn't watch a single minute. But it's the greatest game I haven't watched. Best UConn win outside of a championship. And I think the mystique and aura of Duke is gone.

What are the highlights of UConn's recent win?

Unknown 1:04
I mean, this reminds me of that Yankee collapse in 04 where, you know, I'm sure they're still a good team. They'll probably win a championship in the near future. But all the stuff we grew up about, you know, Coach K and the Cameron Crazies, I mean, the mystique and aura is gone. I think this is, you know, just a classic choke job by Duke, but just a great, gritty win by UConn. Like Rudy T said, never underestimate the heart of a champion. Just a great, great win yesterday. Did you check the score throughout the birthday party, I would imagine? Yeah, you know, I did. I have an app on my phone, and I knew we were down. So it's like, all right, I'm not exactly rushing to watch the TV. But, yeah, just, you know, had to keep one eye on the phone.
Unknown 1:43
But that's it. I mean, you can't give up family as much of a big game as it was. But, yeah, I'm just so glad they pulled it out. And I'll be watching replays for the rest of my life. Yeah, absolutely, Raj. Well, I'll say this, Raj, about your Duke statement. I wouldn't count on for them going anywhere because they are the second highest team when it comes to the amount of money spent on their men's basketball program, only behind Kentucky. So some reports say somewhere between $22 and $25 million was spent on Duke basketball this year. Yeah, but you've got to win as the next guy to keep things going. For example, like... Danny Hurley. So you get the UConn Championship with Jim Calhoun. You get the UConn Championship, the one from Kevin Olley.
Unknown 2:30
And now you got two from Danny Hurley. That's how you keep the mystique going. For example, Roy Williams leaves Kansas, and then Bill Self comes in and wins a championship. So until Shire does that. But by the way, those who are under totally different circumstances for the most part now, Danny Hurley actually has, you know, through the NIL and has been able to recruit guys and pay guys. You could make a case it's actually harder sometimes. You could, but what I'm saying is that, as I told you, I don't know, three or four weeks ago, there are tiers of teams and the money spent on particular athletic programs, in particular the basketball program, and when you see the Sweet 16, almost all of those teams, including High Point, in the Sweet 16, have huge budgets for their basketball programs.
Unknown 3:18
Yeah. So are we shocked that any of them are here? No, but the point being is, though, that no one's thinking about that at Duke right now. I mean, I'm giving these examples that Duke fans and everybody who's playing Duke are all going to compare them to the past. There's not this line of demarcation in sports arguments like pre-nil, post-nil. It's Duke is Duke, and you hate Duke. So if they don't end up winning when Coach K is not the coach for years and years and years, that's going to continue to be a thing. So I just, I would... I would not go as far as Raj did about the entire mystique being gone. They're going to be in the mix every year. Of course. They will be. They're basketball blue blood, as I would say.
Unknown 4:04
But look, I went to Maryland.
