Discover actionable strategies to break free from others' expectations and create a life filled with purpose and happiness. In this episode of the Business Growth Architect Show, I sat down with Laura Gassner Otting, author of Limitless: How to Ignore Everybody, Carve Your Own Path, and Live Your Best Life. Laura shares how to strategically manage a successful business while maintaining a balanced and fulfilling personal life without burnout.Laura emphasizes the importance of recognizing different seasons in your business. She details how planning for quieter periods can allow for personal vacations and essential business maintenance activities, such as CRM audits and insurance reviews. This proactive approach prevents burnout during peak busy times. Drawing from her own experience and rather blunt, but essential advice from her own business coach, Laura learned to value her work and prioritize paying herself. She underscores the importance of strategic planning and self-worth in running a successful business.Laura shares a deep rooted fear that taking a break would cause her business to fail. However, a friend's advice helped her understand that effective delegation and team empowerment are key to a sustainable business. Laura discusses the importance of empowering your team by giving them the training, competence, and autonomy needed to handle client interactions and crises. This shift enabled her to step back and concentrate on higher-level leadership and personal priorities. Once she learned to delegate better and stop micromanaging, she could shift her focus on critical tasks so that she could spend quality time with her family.  Laura introduces a strategy from Carrie Lorenz’s book *Span of Control*, which involves focusing on three mission-critical tasks each day. This approach ensures that key priorities are met while deprioritizing less important tasks that come up during the day.  Through personal anecdotes, such as overcommitting to school events, Laura illustrates the importance of prioritizing what actually matters. She highlights that being present and intentional with family time is far more valuable than trying to do it all.Laura stresses the importance of having a support network for accountability. She is part of a group of fellow writers and speakers who regularly check in with each other to stay on track with their goals.
