Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Welcome to the Busted Open After Dark Podcast. I'm your host, Tommy Dreamer. The backlash of backlash on Monday Night Raw, and I'm going to talk about it right now. This is the Busted Open Podcast. I missed you guys. I haven't been around for a while. Had to take a little bit of a break. Been running hard right before WrestleMania. Then I did every After Dark after WrestleMania.
Then just kept running harder and harder. Doing every show. I think I did every show for a week and just had to cleanse my palate. I've been traveling so much doing wrestling. And just... Tired, but you guys, again, when I say today wasn't a really good day for me. A lot going on, but I miss talking with y'all. And my day picked up as the day went on. So I'm very, very happy.
And as always, I want to hear from you. 877-344-4893. And we'll get into it. This was the Raw after Backlash. So what's the Backlash of Backlash? Roman. Roman, who defeats Jacob Fatu at Backlash. But still gets Tongan death gripped. And looks like we're going to have some more backlash going forward. Roman, of course, shows up. Nice little promo seg with... And I love threads like this.
This is a kind of Attitude Era thread, right? Where your top guy, you see him all through the night. I remember once doing a deep dive watching an old Monday Night Raw and how many times Steve Austin would come out and literally stun people and always get massive pops. It was nuts. Anyway, here comes Roman into the parking area. Has some words with...
Adam Pearce and you know basically he's like hey man I don't want you to suspend him I don't want anything too bad to happen to him until he acknowledges me and that's your cliffhanger your teaser we have several other segments we have one with uh the Usos together trying to like Pretty much like what's going on. Whose side they taking. We have a segment with Roman waiting.
We have a segment with Roman. Waiting with the Usos. And talking with them. And Jay basically. In a really cool segment with his brother. Basically says like. Hey I'm going to stick around. I got to talk to Jacob. Finally Roman. Comes out. Obviously the main event of the show. Last seg of the show. And here comes. Roman, not a lot of words.
They're getting right to the business, which I'm okay with. And here comes Jacob. Now the interesting part. Jay waiting there. Jay talking to him, Jay talking, Jay being the voice or reason, also Jay talking about how important family is to him. And it's like, you know, reminding his own brother that like their family, it's because of their family, like where they're at in their career.
It's such a profound statement.

Chapter 2: How did Jacob Fatu react to his match with Roman Reigns at Backlash?
kind of a sidebar, but like the last, I've only been home, I got home late yesterday and I started watching the Von Eriks biography and I'm watching the second one today. And a lot of like the conversation was it's the family business and it's because of our family is why we're so successful, all that stuff.
And very, very heartwarming, kind of like that connection that like, you know, all the Von Eriks brothers had with each other It's sad. It's a sad biography. It's four hours long. It's great footage I never saw. But again, the importance of family and the importance of when your family is doing successful and doing it's all that like, there's all these sacrifices.
Obviously with the Von Eriks, it's a completely different turn as opposed to what we're kind of talking about now. But that whole... I don't want to say it's a burden, but it's like you love your family so much, but you also got to keep this family business going. It's kind of that with the Usos and the bloodline, you know, this newer version of it.
Jacob comes and Jay just keeps on, you know, trying to talk to him. And as we all know, people and families fight. And sometimes that stubbornness continues. And right as they get to Gorilla, Jay kind of like steps up to Jacob, like, you better listen, and then gets his ass handed to him. In Gorilla position, big old altercation. Here it comes.
Going through that back, which that back looks amazing. And then here comes Jimmy. And the fight is on. They have this action the whole time. Roman's just sitting there waiting. Roman's sitting there waiting. And then we go to physicality. The same physicality we've seen back and forth. The way they're doing it, I do enjoy it. I'm giving up on who's good, who's bad. I have to.
Because the bad guy is attacking our top babyface. I got to say, it's our top babyface in the wrestling industry. And the fans start chanting for Jacob to put him through a table. Once he clears all the table off, the people are cheering, cheering. And then once it gets stopped, they want to see Roman put him through the table. And then, of course, Roman gets put through the table.
And then they're like... They shrieked and they feel bad. And then there's the Tongan death grip. Security, pull apart, it's chaos. We're going off the air. And then Jacob, in a really, really cool moment, was just like, F this.
runs and kills everyone through the barricade uh i've been i don't want to say blessed to be killed through the barricade braun strowman killed me through the barricade um a lot of stuff behind that barricade uh when things are not moved it becomes even more chaotic um but man the people went nuts for it and you go off the air with that chaos This is a continuation of the story.
I like the different versions of the Tongan death grip. I also saw online this weekend, because again, I'm trying to catch up, of why Jacob... put together the Tongan death grip. And one, like his father was the Tonga kid when he first came in. And then when his father, after a nice run in WCW as the SST with Rikishi and Samu, the Islanders come in there and Haku is, you know, he's a little...

Chapter 3: What was the significance of Roman Reigns' presence during the RAW after Backlash?
If I'm Jacob, I start matching my tape with my hair color. Sometimes he has different hair colors in there, red. But that...
just tongan death grip it's literally i'm grabbing you by your adam's apple and i'm squeezing um and i'm taking the air out of you roman has done a great job of getting this and this is kind of where i said like this is the backlash to backlash which i feel this will continue to the show in italy um What is it? The Castle Show? Andre, help me out. What's the name of the castle?
Battle at the Castle? No. Clash in Italy, Tommy. There you go. So we have... I feel this is where it will culminate. Or there'll be... Maybe Jay will be involved. Who the hell knows? But this will be the segment that... Or the match that... Clash at the Castle. That's it. So...
will have i feel that culmination there and uh the italian market which is freaking awesome to wrestle at um i miss going to italy i've been there so many times to perform uh first time was with wwe very blessed to do it uh then on indies at one point i told this story before during before covet i went to italy four times in one year and just like so
blessed to have done that and didn't take full advantage of like all the beauty there you know but because you're always like traveling but did so many tours there great crowd people are gonna go nuts for that um This saga will continue. Obviously taking out all three of the bloodline, Jimmy J and Roman, is a big-ass deal.
And you've got to give props where props are due because they are working their ass off to get Jacob over. And this guy's already had a massive push. He had a push when he first debuted. in the bloodline than the whole with Solo. Solo's kind of been, you know, just a SmackDown story and kind of
pushed to solo island um but jacob really really has you know ascended jacob broke out of solos group and has had so much success again he's so so talented but now where we're going is key they're getting him even primed
more how do you and this is such an interesting study he loses to roman reigns and yet his popularity will continue but he did have heat at backlash they they weren't happy with what they saw they weren't they left with heat again but it's just different layers of it it's not like old school heat or heat where we hate you it's devastation i would guess that would be the best word
to kind of describe what is going on with Jacob and what he's doing. But leaving everybody in his wake is key to get everybody over. It's almost like old school 101 where wrestlers come in. What they're doing with Oba Femi as well. Oba's killing everybody and who's going to be the person to stop him. Old school enhancement matches are probably a thing of the past in WWE just because of

Chapter 4: How did the Usos' storyline evolve after Backlash?
Same with the Usos, man. They paid their dues to be where they're at in the WWE in the sense of they started so, so low. Hey, it's a tag team. Tag teams don't really... you know, WWE has never been a tag team company, though. Great tag teams have formed from it. We had, you know, Jay being the, not the face of the company, the champion for a little bit, the yeet movement.
And now that they're back together, but yeah, It is an incredible story to what these guys have gone through. And I'm talking 20, what, almost 20 years? And what they're doing with Jacob to get him elevated to that status is a testament. And also how, you know, it's more pressure for Jacob than anybody else just because, like, he's getting this and he's got to answer.
And the other part is, not only do you got to answer to your bosses, you got to answer to your family, right? And, you know, they're the ones who are helping you out the best. Hell, you clip a stiff or clip one of your family members, you're going to hear about it more than if you did it to a stranger.
So, again, opening to closing and the entire thread of everything that went down on that opener. I enjoyed I enjoy chaos and I enjoy everything where they're going with the backlash to backlash. Coming up next, we say goodbye to one of the greatest performers in WWE, Asuka, leaves the WWE. All right, my biggest take away from Backlash. And I will get to all the callers.
We already got a great bunch of them. But I have some on... Man, I have some on topic. And I have some that I want to get to my next topic. So I'm going to just go to my next topic. And then I will take all my next callers after the next break. I promise you. 877-344-4893. My biggest take from... Backlash. Best match of the night for me, Io Sky and Asuka.
And, man, for years I've been praising these women. Was shocked with the release of Kairi Sane. And... Now it just was left with Asuka. I know there was a lot of people talking like, you know, Kairi was going to show back up, but she didn't. And the rest was you just had this awesome match with Asuka and Io Sky. Io wins. They've been tormenting her for, hell, a year? Maybe longer?
Actually, yeah, it's been more than a year. And Io has become such a massive star. I love what they did with Rhea and her. Two years ago, main event, I thought she was the biggest star in that match, and I was just like, her stardom... is going higher and higher. And then this year's WrestleMania, she really only had like a brief moment and didn't have a featured match.
Which I thought was a shame because she's just such a steady performer and the fans love her. Backlash, her and Asuka again have match of the night, in my opinion. And then at the end, this celebration and hug for each other, this mutual respect. And you just think, oh, well, now Asuka's a baby face. Then today in a...
or tonight in a promo, um, Oscar, I feel says goodbye to the WWE, uh, for now. And it's very, very heartfelt, warm hug. And it's like, Hey, even though we fight each other, we'll always like, you know, basically be friends and they love each other. And it said nice things in Japanese. And then Oscar takes her bag and just really rolls it out the door. Um,

Chapter 5: What emotional moments were highlighted in the episode regarding family dynamics?
Whatever's going on with her, I wish her nothing but the best. Obviously she's a massive star. globally, if she's done with WWE, she's done with WWE. She had an amazing last match. And then I love that the fact, and I say this all the time, wrestlers need to say their goodbye, but also more importantly, the fans need to say goodbye.
I wish it was in front of a live crowd because they would have paid her her love and admiration. But I thought the Tampa crowd did that already. And Asuka, who, you know, basically debuted NXT, crushed it in NXT, and then was on the main roster forever. Former world champion. What a great, in my opinion, first ballot Hall of Famer as well. Loved her when she got, you know, unfortunately got hurt.
Her return was wonderful. Has been in the WWE a long time and just kind of like walked off into the sunset. I think it's a big loss for the WWE just because of what she brings in ring as well as her character. Because she too was another beloved babyface and then turns heel, was a heel forever.
Um, and then literally just because she always does what she always does, has a great match and in loss wins and, you know, gets a standing ovation between, uh, her and EO sky on Saturday. Um, It sucks if that's the last we ever see of Asuka inside a WWE ring. I hope it's not the case because she's so, so talented.
And an emotional match, a great match on Saturday, and then a nice emotional segment. And then they said they're going to follow up with what's going on with her. And basically Michael Cole said, you know, her status is up in the air and she's leaving. And I was like, whoa, that's kind of a nice that they were real with us and they were informative to us.
And so for now, I'm just saying Asuka, I'm sure they'll move her to the alumni page and her status will be completely up in the air. And I do feel it's a massive loss for the WWE community. But whatever's going on, I have nothing but respect and admiration for how hard she always works. And she's left a great legacy for herself within the WWE. And thank you for all your hard work.
And you saw a lot of the talent tweeting about it during Raw. She just, man, she's exactly what she was. She was a warrior, is a warrior. but massive, massive void where we always talk about with these call-ups, obviously a lot of the call-ups, you also have a lot of the terminations. Spots are being filled, and who's going to fill those spots? She's got some big boots to really, really...
and hopefully somebody can. And Io Skye continues to flourish. I thought they were going to go the storyline of she's so distraught she loses her match to Sol Ruka. But Sol Ruka takes a big L in her match while also basically missing her finish and having her finish countered. And Io Skye gets the victory. I had no problem with that. I thought the match was cool.
Both women worked very, very hard. And again, it's a whole other world when you're on that main roster. And we got to see, you know, Saul's getting over with, she'll get over just like she did in NXT with her innovative moves. I thought it was okay for her to take the L right off the bat. Don't know if I would have had her finish countered, but is what it is.
