Yo, what's going on, Busted Open Nation, and thanks for tuning in to another edition of the Busted Open After Dark podcast. It's me, it's the OG of AD, it's Uncle Bully, and I am sitting down with your brand spanking new NXT men's champion. Say his name, and he'll appear. Joe Hendry, turn up the After Dark Podcast. This is the Busted Open Podcast. Joe, welcome and congratulations. Thank you so much for having me on the show again. A hell a hell of a match. You walked in and the first words out of your mouth were I have a lot to say.
Yeah.
So I could ask you all the questions in the world, but you know what? Your adrenaline is still pumping. You just left the ring 15 minutes ago.
Yeah.
So you're probably very emotional right now in one way, shape, or form. So I'm gonna do something I don't normally do. I'm just giving you the floor. Say whatever you want.
How are you feeling right now? Thank you, Billy. I appreciate that. I uh I'm feeling so many different emotions. I have so much to say, and I will do my best to get out here coherently. But um this has been uh you know, in life we have different goals, different challenges, and this particular championship means so much to me. This championship represents, you know, what the last um six, eight months Here full time at the performance center has been for me. I made the choice to come here to WWE and I made the choice to come and train at NXT. And you know, to I get in the ring every day um with with those you know top level first class at first class athletes, and I knew I had to push my cardio and my condition into a new level, and I knew I just have to keep acquiring new skills, and there were days where it was just so
Tough, and I just felt like I was just pushing things forward inch by inch. And there were moments where I was, you know, frustrated. I wanted to progress, and then things just started to click, and I started to learn more and more and more. And when you're around this environment at the PC every day, you can't help but get better. And that was my my only goal: just to get as good as I can possibly do. Uh I get as good as I can possibly be. at professional wrestling because you know the last couple of years was a marketing exercise for me, right? It was to tell the world who Joe Henry is. And now the journey was for me to step up to a championship calibre uh athlete that can go to the very top of this business.
And in order to do that I had to truly humble myself and I I've been training every day um giving absolutely everything and you know to have that goal realized and actualized in this championship title that's been held by some of the most prestigious names in the business. I'm so honored and privileged to represent this brand. Vindication for you in any way? Uh absolutely. Absolutely. You know, it's when you're doing this at uh when you're doing this at the top level, you have the the support I've had has been unbelievable. Like I'm so fortunate. There are times where you know you walk through Gorilla and you know you're you you can feel those nerves, but I see the blue shirts, I see the people waving, I'm like, no, I can do this.
So the people do power you through it. But also at this level, you deal with a lot of criticism, you know, and the thing is, sometimes the criticism that hurts is the stuff that maybe is true, you know.
What okay, so tell me a piece of criticism that you have received that hurt.
Because it was true. Um, I I've so early it's I've had you know it happens all the time in your career. You get little people say different things and it only stings when it's true. There's been times where they go, Oh, you know, maybe and this is back in the day, you know, maybe Joe Henry's physique could be a little bit better. Maybe Joe Henry could have a bit more of a unique look, maybe his promos could be better, maybe his matches could be longer or better. You hear all these criticisms and at different points in your career and now it's not so much uh it's not so much the criticism it's more the reason I get a real kick out of this is because if people criticize me they think that they're criticizing the finished product but I'm evolving every single day.
