Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Welcome to the Busted Open Podcast. This is Dave LaGreca. On today's episode, myself and Bully Ray talk Monday Night Raw and the non-acknowledgement from Jacob Fatu to Roman Reigns. We break it all down right here on the Busted Open Podcast. This is the Busted Open Podcast. Bully, let's dive into Monday Night Raw. The Monday Night Raw after Backlash.
You and I both really enjoyed Backlash from Saturday night. I thought it was an A pay-per-view. And now we're on the road after Backlash with new stories. I guess take us to SummerSlam. I think last night was the beginning of the first chapter. Overall, what did you think of Monday Night Raw last night?
I'm going to use a term that you hear me use a lot, and it was good at best.
Yeah, I thought it was okay.
When I say good at best, I try to keep in mind that... People do enjoy the show, and people like the show. On my way to the studio this morning, I was listening to Dreamer on After Dark, and one guy called in with his nine-year-old son. And they had just left Raw last night, and they're like, man, we had a great time. We really enjoyed ourselves.
So I'm saying to myself, hey, man, there's a guy going with his kid, and they thought the show was... Really good.

Chapter 2: What were the highlights from Monday Night Raw after Backlash?
Had a great time. And I think it's more about, like, last night they were in Knoxville, right? How many times a year, especially with live events and house shows, like, becoming something almost obsolete. Obsolete! How many times do they get to go to Knoxville? How many times do they really get to go anywhere?
So when they are coming to these cities that back in the day may have been B cities, you know, Nashville being the A city, Knoxville being the B city, just perception-wise, how many times do they really come to these cities? So the people are going to be more up and ready to have a good time. And I think where that was glaring, once again,
was during the main event segment of Jacob Fatu and Roman Reigns.
All right. First of all, a few things from what you said that I want to double back on.
you're absolutely right when you're there live and this is why I always tell fans if you get the opportunity go and I know that tickets are expensive for WWE but doesn't necessarily have to be WWE could be AEW or just an independent show if you get the opportunity to see live pro wrestling go see it it's a much different experience than watching it on TV you could take a show where
like last night's Raw that I thought was okay, you thought was good at best. But if you're there in attendance to watch it, it's going to be much, much better, a much better feel. You're around other fans. You get excited. You get to see the entrances and everything else that comes along with it.
So if you get the opportunity, go and support live wrestling because it's a much better experience live than it is on TV. So that's number one. And number two is you're 100 percent right, Bully. Like the days of the live events are gone. You know, I grew up, you grew up where, you know, the Madison Square Garden would have a card every month or two.
You know, the Meadowlands would have a card every month or two. So if you missed the show, don't worry. In a month or two, it's going to be right back and you're going to have an opportunity to see it. Now, who knows the next time Knoxville is going to have a WWE show because they don't really do live events anymore.
So stop. We just stop right there for one second. Let's check this out. You live in Knoxville and you're saying, who knows when we're going to get another WWE show, let alone a live Monday Night Raw. And oh, by the way, you want me to boo Roman? Uh-uh.

Chapter 3: How did the audience react to Jacob Fatu's segment with Roman Reigns?
You know, Backlash, no punk. No Cody. No Liv. No Rhea. No Becky Lynch. Some of the biggest stars in the company not on that show. But here's Roman Reigns. They're going to embrace Roman Reigns because he's one of the few top tier superstars that are on that show. It's the same thing last night with the Monday Night Raw. And this is part of the reasons that I don't like the brand split.
Here you are. You're on a Monday night in Knoxville. No Punk. no Cody, no Rhea. So when Roman comes out, it's like, this is the guy I see every week on TV. This is the guy that's been in the last 11. He's the biggest star on the show. Yeah, so you're going to get a great reaction for Roman Reigns. Fingers in the air. Oh my God, it's Roman Reigns. Let's chant OTC.
No matter what verbiage is being said in the ring, we are going to chant OTC. I'm sure the father and son that were talking to Tommy last night on Busted Open After Dark were two fans that were putting their fingers in the air and chanting OTC. And that's what's going to happen here.
And unless it's some kind of super show, like a PLE where everybody's on it, these are the reactions you're going to get from the fans.
Another thing that... I thought about last night was... I'm going to go back to the Tongan death grip.
And you know how I have felt about that hold and how we have discussed that they kind of missed the boat and missed the opportunity to do something completely different with this finishing maneuver that's supposed to be so deadly that, you know, not even Samoans are supposed to use it on Samoans, and Roman brought that up, but Jacob is still... using it.
I've told you for years that I despise the stipulation of a no-holds-barred match, because no moves or holds are barred in pro wrestling. Back in the day, the claw was barred, the pile driver was barred, going to the top rope was barred, throwing somebody over the top rope was barred. We've seen these things in companies over the years.
Thus, when you bar the move, you can get to a blow-off match where no holds are barred, and then you can use the pile driver, and you can use the claw, and you can throw somebody over the top rope. Thus, the people pop when it happens because you're giving them something back that you took away.
If there was one move in the WWE that they could have built something like a no-holds-barred around, it's the Tongan Death Grip. That, if they would have kept the credibility on the Tongan Death Grip, you could have had Pierce blasted.

Chapter 4: What are the implications of Jacob Fatu's refusal to acknowledge Roman Reigns?
So when they were in a main event match, then you could do a little creative freedom with it. Now you can't do that anymore because you go right to the main event match.
They didn't sell the finishers with the enhancement talent. They got over the finishers with the enhancement talent.
Damn straight. I mean, like Jake the Snake Roberts would go in there and every single match, every single week on TV, he would use that DDT. So when he's in a main event match against a Ricky Steamboat and he does the DDT and Ricky Steamboat kicks out at two and a half, you're like, holy shit. Because Jake the Snake Roberts for... eight months, has put over the DDT every single week on TV.
This Tongan death grip, like out of nowhere, has appeared in front of us During this story of Roman and Jacob, they haven't had a chance to really get that over. That's why I'm saying the only way you can get it over now is with some kind of video package where you're like, holy shit, this is something I've never seen. Oh, my God. So when he puts it on Roman Reigns, you're like, holy shit.
But they don't do that anymore.
I understand what you're saying. That would have been great in the beginning. I think that time has come and go. Could they miraculously overnight decide to do this package next week or bring in Haku and talk about the severity and the credibility of it? That's fine. I'm not going to believe it because it hasn't done anything that bad to Roman yet.
roman like dave like i told you yesterday seriously i want you to try it have violetta grab you by your larynx and squeeze five ten percent and see if you're not like before you get your voice back if you roman should have not been able to speak Just like if you give somebody a certain move, you know, why do people come out selling a move that they took a day later or a week later?
It's because the move they took a week earlier was severe enough that I'm still feeling the lingering effects. You're going to tell me there are no lingering effects from the Tongan Deathgrip, a move that Roman said, how dare you use this on me? You know how deadly this move is. I want to do now what the WWE has done. I want to move on from the tongue and death grip because it's done.
It's over with. It's not going to be special anymore. And I'd be more than happy, more than happy to come on this show and go, I was wrong and eat crow if somehow they could get the credibility back on it.
