The War of the Worlds was first published in 1898. It is thought to be the first novel about an alien invasion of Earth, and is one of the most important science fiction novels ever written. It was adapted for radio, theatre and cinema, and has inspired fictional works of all types. Alongside The Time Machine, The Island of Dr Moreau and The First Men in the Moon, The War of the Worlds is regarded as one of the great science fiction novels of H.G. Wells (1866-1946).
