He's worked with thousands of mums and built Bump around a simple idea that women deserve real support and proper training. training through pregnancy and beyond. So a huge welcome to the podcast, Callum. How are you?
Calum Wilson 0:30
Very well.

Who is Calum Wilson and what inspired him to specialize in pre‑ and postnatal training?

Calum Wilson 0:30
Thank you for a the wicked intro. Appreciate that.
Bex 0:34
Of course, absolutely. No, it's great to have you here. I will um yeah, pass it back to you though. I would love to hear in your own words, a bit of an introduction, who you are, what you do, and all the things.
Calum Wilson 0:45
Thank you. Uh yeah, I think it's very humbling when you hear the word twenty years. I think I've been waiting for the twenty years experience mark for for way too long. Um but it's true. So um I have specialized in this sector for such a long time. I did a degree in sports science back in England over 20 years ago. And from that point of arriving in Aust on the Australia shores 20 years uh in Sydney, I pretty much specialised my whole career in kind of working with mums through this time. time in their life from every course that I could find, from speaking to every specialist that I could network with, and then just really building out a whole kind of ecosystem in the pre and postnata world. Uh for multiple reasons that we can discuss later, but it's it really is something I'm I've grown into having a huge passion in this topic.
Calum Wilson 1:30
Really want to help as many mums across Australia slash the world and also as many trainers because It's a topic that People some people are very invested in and some people aren't. So it's a case of um kind of hopefully today harnessing people's imagination and awareness and attention and making them kind of spend a bit more time here and hopefully helping more markets as a byproduct.
Bex 1:52
Yeah. Absolutely. It's definitely so needed, isn't it? And yeah, like you say, we'll get into all the nitty gritty soon. But I think it's um yeah, really awesome to hear your passion and how you've obviously seen the need for it. And I think over the time in the fitness industry there has been a big shift from certain myths and things that we'll probably get into as well. I think there's been a lot of confusion as well. Trainers will be given a client who is either already pregnant or they get pregnant while they're working with them and then they sort of start to be like, we will just do the same thing, but we'll just go lighter on everything. We need to take it really easy. But I think it we've really started to see that shift, which I'm excited to hear more from you about today.
Bex 2:25
But take us back to the start. What were you actually seeing twenty years ago that made you really want to specialise in this space?
Calum Wilson 2:32
I was seeing a lot of Disenfranchised women that had had their babies two to three years prior with conditions and dysfunction that was now pretty much too late to fix or certainly really hard to fix. And it was disheartening when I knew if they'd given the right information, the right education, the right help at the right time, a lot of these things could have been helped. So it was frustrating and that was when I first kind of touched touchdown. I used to work for Fitness First as just a freelance PT, walking the floor, and then I just kept on finding just so many women in their forties with these problems. And it it just made me aware that I need to help basically and I need to kind of work on and I think the UK was a little bit further ahead than Australia was at the time.
Calum Wilson 3:14
It's it it's grown a lot in the last twenty years. But And it's still s a little bit behind, but I think Seeing these mums in a point in their lives where they were super vulnerable and just weren't getting the education was kind of my motivation and the fire in my belly.
