Hey guys, real quick, this week's special is on our GLP One Essentials course, registered with OSECTV for six CPDs. Link in show notes if you're interested.
But what I'm super excited to get into today is that she's also built an entire arm of her business around helping other coaches do exactly what she did, grow an online business that actually makes money and gives them the freedom. So whether you are deep in the client work, you're thinking about going online, or you just want to hear from someone who is absolutely killing it in the space, this is the episode for you. So a big welcome to you, Kate. How are you?
Good. Thank you so much for having me on. That was a really good intro. I feel like you did really well on that. I love hearing like the synopsis of how other people perceive it.
Oh, I love that. I'll definitely um I'll take that one. Thank you. That's a win. But very excited to have you on. And like I said before, I am slightly shamelessly fangirling a little bit because I've actually been following Kate on social media for a very long time. So was stoked to be able to have the opportunity to have you on. So thank you again. Um so for anyone who doesn't know you, d can you just give us a little bit of an intro into you, your journey and what got you into fitness in the first place?
Yeah, perfect. So I'm Kate, for those who don't know me. I've been in the fitness industry since 2018, but originally I'm a qualified nutritionist. So I actually started kind of my whole health and fitness journey or getting interested into the space. After high school I went straight to uni and I did a science degree majoring in nutrition. And then from there, I was very lucky to get into a clinical nutrition role where that's kind of where it all started for me. But I, at the same time of doing that, kind of fell out of love with working in more of a clinical sense. I just didn't see that that was going to be my forever job, if I'm honest with you. But I also, in the same breath, never wanted to own my own business.
I had no desire for that. I had no understanding of what it would take to own a business. So I decided on the side to start studying my cert three and four in fitness. And then in 2018, I got qualified and I started working on the gym floor. So I w walked in on my first day, no experience, no clients, $300 worth of commercial gym rent hanging over my head with no idea how I was going to. afford that or even I s essentially get a single client. And then I was really lucky within the first three months, because majority of um gyms have that kind of loading where you can pay like portional rent. Within that three month period, I was fully booked and I started Pretty much my business journey from there on the gym floor.
And then COVID happened. And I had spent two years building my business from scratch to being fully self-employed to literally losing 80% of my business overnight. And forced to essentially sink or swim. And I decided to pivot and start learning about the online space, and that is kind of what has led me to where I am today. So I lost eighty percent of my business overnight and then within three months I was able to hire three co coaches, a full time VA. And pretty much scale my business from Ground zero, ten clients to a hundred and ten clients.
That's huge. How cool. What a cool success story. Especially I feel like a lot of people can really relate to that COVID scenario. Um, and it really was sinkle swim, wasn't it? Like the ones who weren't willing to pivot or were a little bit naive to the situation, yeah, they they didn't do so well. So Really awesome that that was the direction that you went in. And to be able to hire other co-coaches in a VA so soon, that's really paints the picture of how well. The pivot went. And I love that you started with nutrition as well. Cause I feel like it's it's often the other way around. People start in PT and then be like, oh, nutrition's such a big part of this, but you already had such a strong foundation there.
So that's really awesome.
