Well, now that Israel has all the hostages back, those dead and alive, that Hamas took in the 2023 terror attack that triggered the war in Gaza, a border crossing will reopen connecting Gaza to Egypt.
The reopening of the pedestrian crossing at Rafah will mark an important step forward for President Donald Trump's ceasefire plan. It's Gaza's main gateway to the outside world, as the territory's three other crossings are shared with Israel. Israel said it would only be reopened after the return of the last remaining hostage. A limited number of people will be allowed to pass through each day, subject to security clearance. We got an update on inflation this morning.
Companies were paying more for things in December. The producer price index, which measures inflation at the wholesale level, rose half a percent, up seven tenths of a percent for core PPI, which excludes food and energy. For the year ending in December, the PPI rose 3%, up 3.3% for core PPI. The readings are all higher than estimated and matched or were higher than November readings, though the producer price index peaked at 11.7% on an annual basis in March of 2022.
