Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
More rumbling in the skies. I'm Paul Stevens, Fox News. A powerful nor'easter set to slam parts of the East Coast this weekend. It could bring the heaviest snow in decades for the Carolinas. Fox Weather's Mike Seidel in Kill Devil Hills.
Chapter 2: What severe weather is impacting the East Coast this weekend?
Got our first flake slide here on the Outer Banks of the East here at Kill Devil Hills, down to Kitty Hawk, up to Duck. At the very, very beginning of what's going to be a long 24 hours of snow, heavy snow at times, and wind gusts over 50 miles an hour. The Atlantic has churned up quite a bit since yesterday with the increased wind. By the way, the water temperature here is in the mid-40s.
Down in Buxton and Hatteras, it's in the mid-60s. So down there, temperatures are a little bit above freezing. They may actually just get rain for a while, and then they'll change over to snow this evening. We're expecting all snow here right now.
And the governors of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia already declaring states of emergency. A partial shutdown underway of the federal government.
That's because the Senate changed what the House passed last week. The Senate approved five spending bills, but Democrats insisted on holding up the DHS bill. They wanted changes at ICE. The Senate broke off the DHS bill and sent the rest of the package back to the House. That triggers a shutdown until at least Monday night.
Now, House Speaker Mike Johnson implored Republicans to vote yes on Monday. That would end the shutdown after 70 hours. But DHS is only funded for two weeks.
Not clear how many House members will support that revised package next week. Violent agitators, protesters arrested outside the federal detention center in Los Angeles on Friday. Thousands meeting in front of City Hall before many marched to the federal center where a mob swarmed the area.
All the unrest coming is cities across the U.S., many of them taking part in the Ice Out Everywhere protests. America is listening to Fox News.
