Chapter 2: What military actions is President Trump taking in Portland?
The president making the announcement on Truth Social, saying that he's directed his secretary of war, Pete Hegsa, to send troops to protect Portland at any of their ICE facilities under siege from attack by Antifa and other domestic terrorists.
While there have been protests at the ICE facility in South Portland, the state's Democratic Governor Tina Kotak maintains there is no national security threat in the city. Kotak says they have been provided no information on the reason or purpose of any military mission.
Regardless, state and local officials have already reported seeing armored vehicles and more federal agents in the city, something they dismiss as merely a show of force.
In other news, Charlie Kirk's suspected assassin, Tyler Robinson's due in court on Monday and a defense attorney has been appointed. Fox's Madeline Scarpino has the latest.
Tyler Robinson has not yet pled guilty or not guilty, but he does now have a defense attorney. Her name is Catherine Nestor. She's a former federal prosecutor. Utah County is receiving $1 million in taxpayer money to go towards this case. and ensuring Robinson gets a quote, qualified defense. This all comes as investigators and prosecutors continue to build up their case against Robinson.
They're still working to get all of the details of his actions leading up to the shooting, his full motive, and the possibility of co-conspirators.
And Robinson's charged with aggravated murder and six other crimes in connection with the fatal shooting. The DOJ says it will make sure Utah gets everything it needs for the case. And four top U.S. congressional leaders plan to meet with President Trump on Monday ahead of a potential shutdown. America's listening to Fox News.
