What are the main priorities for kids’ executive functioning during the pandemic?
Hey everyone, it's Debbie from the Tilt Parenting Podcast. It is Monday, March 30th. This is another one of those special episodes. Tomorrow I will be releasing my regular weekly episode, this time with Dr. Dan Peters, a really great conversation about teens that's especially relevant right now. But I wanted to get this episode out. This is actually the audio from the Facebook Live I did with Seth earlier last week. I know that many of you aren't on social media, and I wanted to make sure that this content was as accessible to this community as possible. So just as I did with this special coronavirus webinar a few weeks ago, I took the audio file from our Facebook Live, and that is what you'll be listening to here.
This was a very relevant conversation specifically about the expectations for our kids regarding school right now, executive functioning challenges, and what we should be focusing on as we navigate this new educational landscape. So again, I'm just kind of throwing this out pretty quickly. There's no music. There won't be music at the end. I'm just going to go right to this conversation with Seth. There will be a show notes page on the website where I'll share the resources that came up during the Facebook Live as well. So I hope you find this useful. Here you go. All right. Hey, everyone. Welcome to the Tilt Together page for a Facebook Live with my dear friend Seth Perler. If you are watching this, I'm already seeing some likes, so we know you're there.
Thank you. Just take a minute. There's a little bit of a lag. Take a minute and just maybe share where you are watching this from. And also, I'd love to hear in one word what kind of sums up your mood or the energy in your house right now. I just want to kind of know where you all are at. So just take a minute to do that. And Seth and I, I'm going to spend a few minutes just introducing you to people. Jump on. And my word, Seth, I want to know your word. My word right now is actually focused for some reason. I'm feeling pretty focused at the moment. What's your word?
For today or for lately?
Yeah, for today.
Um, my word for today is hopeful.
Oh, that is a good word. All right. That's a good word. All right. We've got flustered in Texas. We've got simplified. Oh, I love that. Um, good, but high anxiety, Chesapeake, Virginia, Houston, peaceful, very nice. Hailing from our living room in central Minnesota. We've got Calgary, Canada. Fantastic. Awesome. I'm overwhelmed. We've got Oslo, Norway. Welcome all you guys. Calmly overwhelmed. Very nice. I can relate to that. It's a stir crazy one word. It certainly can be. Rooted. These are some really reflective. These are some really positive words. This is making me feel grounded actually reading all these words. So thank you for sharing. So for those of you in my TILT community who are not familiar with Seth, Seth Perler is an executive functioning coach.
He has an incredible resource website called sethperler.com. He ran the executive functioning online summit last year, which was a phenomenal week long event. He's got a very active YouTube channel. He makes a lot of videos, both for parents and kids alike, about all things executive functioning. He used to be a teacher. He lives, breathes, and eats this stuff. And he's incredibly passionate about this work. So if you aren't familiar with Seth, he's also a frequent guest on the podcast. But check out his website at sethperler.com. He has Sunday updates he sends out. He has a student success toolkit. And you just created a special resource for parents right now.
Yeah, I just made something on my website. If you go to SethPerler.com, can somebody type it in the chat, SethPerler.com, because I can't get to the regular chat on Facebook. But at the top of it, I put COVID-19 parent and teacher help or something, and then that'll lead you to a resource page where I'm just making content, sort of what Debbie and I will be talking about today, because what's going to happen in the next couple of weeks and months is everything is going to get shook up like a jar of mud in terms of your kid's education.
