Welcome back to the Fully Live podcast, where we explore the science, strategies, and stories behind living a longer, healthier, and more meaningful life. Today's conversation is a fascinating one because it challenges some of the core assumptions many of us have about modern health. My guest today is Dr. Joe Newsma. He's a senior toxicologist with nearly four decades of experience across the pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device industries. Over the course of his career, he's evaluated the impact of drugs, chemicals, and environmental exposures on the human body. And what he's discovered may surprise you. While much of modern medicine is focused on treating symptoms, doctor Joe has spent years asking a different question.
Zach Gurick 1:48
What if many of the issues we're facing today are actually the result of an accumulated toxic burden? And what if the body, when given the right conditions, is far more capable of healing than we think? Through his work with individuals, he's helped people reduce unnecessary medications, improve their overall health, and rethink what it really means to age well in today's world. We also explore his work with Live Longer Labs in a compound called C sixty, which is an emerging and somewhat controversial molecule that's gaining attention in longevity circles for its potential role in combating oxidative stress. We approach this conversation with both curiosity and healthy skepticism, unpacking what the science says and what it doesn't, and how to think critically about new interventions in the health space.

So this episode is all about cutting through the noise, understanding what's actually driving chronic illness today, how to reduce your toxic load, and what it takes to truly extend not just your lifespan, but your health span. So with that, let's dive into today's episode with Dr. Joe Newsma. Well, Dr. Joe, thank you so much for being with us today. You have a wealth of expertise and experience and knowledge that I'm so excited to have you on the show and unpack all of those 40 years of expertise that you have to bring to us today. So thanks so much for being here. Thanks for taking time to be with us.
Joe Nieusma 3:11
Uh thanks for having me on the show, Zach. I really appreciate a chance to share some pearls of wisdom with your audience and and maybe spark some thought.
Zach Gurick 3:19
Yeah. So I'd love to just understand how did you get into the role that you have? I mean, you're a toxicology expert, a toxicologist, you know, you have your PhD in toxicology. You've been doing this for thirty eight years, you know, almost four decades. How did you end up in this?
Joe Nieusma 3:37
What led you down the path to become it's a long time when you think about that. Four decades. Wow. But well, I I grew up in a family where my dad was an oral surgeon. So he was a doc. You know, he was a surgeon. He took care of people. And I grew up going through high school thinking that I wanted to be a physician, thinking that I wanted to go to medical school. And I went to undergrad and had biology and chemistry with a pre med focus and and I was thinking I'm gonna go to medical school and You know, I got a cooperative job with Dow Chemical in my last year of college in Midland, Michigan.
