Welcome
to the Jerry Powell Podcast. This is Inga Kelly. And this is Lynn Flint. Wait a second. Whoa,
what's going on here? You guys, today is the 300th episode of the Jerry Powell Podcast. And we've decided we're going to spice things up. Okay, so
today we are doing an Ask Me Anything based on the YouTube show. We're going to spice things up. It's called Hot Ones.
Jerry Pal edition.
Jerry Pal
edition. Can I ask what is Hot Ones?
So here's what we're going to do today. So in front of us today, we have a variety of hot sauces and chicken wings. They've all been laid out for you. Our task is simple. We are going to be sampling each of these hot chicken wings while we ask Eric and Alex questions related to palliative care and geriatrics.
Great. These are the questions submitted by our audience?
Right. So we're not totally winging it
here.
Okay.
A variety of people, including a number of your listeners, have submitted questions to ask you guys today. So we put them all together and it's going to be great. We'll learn a lot about you. And don't things go on YouTube?
They do. This
might
be one that's better
to watch
than to listen to. I actually
was going to say this
may be better
to listen to. Right. And for those of you who do watch, you know, we're taping this during, if you're a California person, we're taping this during local crab season. So we've got our crab bibs on just to help try to keep things a little less messy today.
Okay.
Do we have a song request? Thank you for asking, Lynn. We sure do. I was delighted to take over our first song request today. And, you know, what folks should also know is Alex's cast has come off.
Yeah, I'm in a splint.
Congratulations. I have
two fingers to play the song with, so I'm in the most bizarre tuning ever.
Which means he can play the guitar again.
Yeah.
So I have requested, in celebration of that, I requested the song Guitar Man by Bread.
Great choice. Love this song. Who draws the crowd? Who plays so loud? Baby, it's a guitar man. Who's gonna steal the show? You know, baby, it's a guitar man. He can make you love. He can make you cry. He will bring you down. And he'll get you high.
Awesome. You're our favorite
guitar man, Alex.
Great choice. Thank
you. All right. All right. Let's get started. Oh,
do we eat a wing now?
Well, first, I have a question for each of you very briefly.
All right.
How do you handle your heat?
Oh, I used to be good at it.
How do Alex and Eric handle the first hot‑sauce wing while answering listener questions?
Not anymore. So this is going to be a struggle for me. I'm a little chicken.
All right. Oh, you got that one in.
Oh, no. I'm like a Hawaiian European guy who
grew up in
Michigan. I don't handle my heat well. Okay. This is going to be rough.
Everybody grab a wing. We're getting started. This
one. First one is from Hawaii. This is a mango flavored salsa.
So while you guys are eating, we're going to throw you a few softballs. Is this the mild one?
This
is mild. This is
nothing. I'm doomed. Really? Really?
Oh,
boy. Okay. I just feel a little tingle. Nothing,
right? So, Alex, tell us, how many bones have you broken?
Oh.
Too many. Alex comes into a podcast with a new broken bone pretty much
every podcast.
I think I broke... Playing basketball, I broke my ribs in med school. And I broke my wrist in residency. I broke my finger after that. And then biking, I broke my clavicle. I
broke my
left hand. And playing football, I broke my finger. Yeah.
I thought two clavicle fractures, no? No,
just
one. Oh, just one. Thank
you, though. Yeah, no, I'm either a klutz or I have poor bone health. I'm actually getting
bones. We're lucky to have you here today. That's great. My goodness. All right, Eric, here's your first one. I'm
ready.
Give us the steps to making a perfect latte.
Oh, for those who don't know, my hobby is making a perfect latte in the morning. I used to like it in the afternoon, but as I'm getting
older. You take the frozen,
flash frozen,
instant coffee out of the freezer.
Fresh beans. I keep them in a siloed kind of airtight lid jar. You got to grind it, not in a conical burr grinder. Wait, do we have like two hours for this?
