Hey everyone, welcome to the Group Dentistry Now show. Uh Bill Lemon here. Great to have everybody uh listening in today. This is an audio only podcast. We wanted to get this out quickly because we have the ADSO 15th annual. Can't believe 15. Wow. 15th annual summit coming up in uh June. So June 15th through the 18th in Chicago. And we have have with us andrew smith the CEO of the ADSO. He is a regular on the podcast. It's great to have you back, Andrew.
Thanks, Bill. Really glad to be back again and uh talking about our our summit. I agree with you. You know, I can't believe it's fifteen years. I've obviously been here five, but uh it's it's pretty remarkable to kind of see where or at least what I heard, where it started and now where we are today.
Yeah, I I I can't believe you've been there five years already. Time time goes quickly and you've done done a lot with the ADSO from an ad advocacy standpoint. Um and then also the the event itself. And of course it's not just this one event. You um you uh do quite a few different events. You've got the uh event that's focused a little bit more on the emerging market, which is great too, the emerging groups and you know, we've got our

own emerging dental groups to watch awards story that we want to talk about uh at your main event. Uh so we'll why don't we get get into a little bit of What's going on at the ADSO from an advocacy standpoint, many get maybe get us up to speed on what's going on in twenty twenty six when it comes to the world of DSOs and group practice, what you all are seeing and maybe what some of your members are are talking about.
Yeah, no, I I thanks Bill for that. I think, you know, there's uh a lot of interesting things, you know, kind of going on um, you know, on on how do we continue to have the DSO model uh expand and you know, continuing to really help our members um drive their growth. So you know, as you're probably familiar over the last several years, uh we've been very focused on uh the portability issue, the license. Portability of dentists and hygienists to be able to more freely move across state lines and practice where the care is needed. You know, we've now uh the DDH compact that we'd work with the ADA and the American uh Dental Hygiene Association on has now 12 states that's passed it. And now we're kind of into that implementation phase and working with the states to get that up and running, which I think will be a phenomenal.
nominal uh boon to the uh to to to to the industry, particularly for access. So we're continuing to to focus a lot on that. Uh we're also working with many state uh dental societies and the ADA around dental insurance reform. That's still a a a major issue to to ensure that uh you know benefits are being able to be exercised and received by patients and that providers are uh able to be compensated that way. Um and then we're also continuing to make sure that, you know, there's been obviously, you know this, uh a lot of focus on the role of uh private investment involved in healthcare. Uh and I think what we've seen, and again, you know, for the larger macro issue that, you know, dentistry is a little different than medical and how care is delivered.
And so, you know, some of the things we've been focused on is when we see in the state some of these healthcare transaction type laws um that are coming in, we're really focused on making sure that legislators and regulators understand the dental delivery model and the role that DSOs play in that and to make sure that there aren't barriers put in paced that would um you know limit access.
