hey everyone um first off i want to say a huge thanks for your patience while i've been away for a few weeks um i actually headed to russia um of all places and climbed uh one of the seven summits there which is mount albrus and my third of the world's seven summits so um Russia was a very interesting experience, especially getting through the border and military checkpoints and so on. But before we get started on this episode, I just want to quickly point out something, which is an upcoming event in August on the 12th in Australia. And it's my first of its kind, which is I'm going to be speaking at an event at the Frankston RSL, which is in Melbourne.
And the focus of this event is what happened to 16-year-old Alana Cecil, which was season four of my podcast. so in this event it's going to be a two-hour live event I'm going to speak about this case share details that I've never shared before and also there'll be a question a Q&A session afterwards I'm really excited about this I love doing live speaking events I haven't done this kind of thing before in relation to the podcast this is a ticketed event so you can Buy tickets in the link which I'll provide below. Back home now, and police are being urged to conduct a more thorough search of land linked to the family of convicted murderer David Tamahere, amid claims a skeleton supposedly buried there could be that of missing Swedish backpacker Heidi Parkinen.
It was just before Christmas in 2024 that I spoke to John Tamahere about the possibility of conducting a search to recover the alleged skeleton. However, by early June 2025, I was receiving no responses to my follow-up emails and calls, so it became fairly clear that that particular door had now closed. And while I can understand there are many factors at play here, my own thought is that despite everything, surely John, as a respected political figure, would appreciate that even if there was a tiny chance the skeleton could be recovered, and it was Heidi, then it surely must be worth it. But come mid-June of 2025, I decided to do something that I really hadn't wanted to. And that was to go public with the information about the skeleton and the police search with New Zealand's biggest media outlet, Stuff News and TV3 News.
And on June the 14th, a TV feature and a story on stuff.co.nz highlighted the key elements of this story without giving away too much identifying detail. My goal was to raise awareness of the original police search and the fact that I believed a second search was warranted given what I'd learned about the search being in the wrong place according to the witness. I'll share the story link in the description of this episode. However, despite this fantastic coverage, there was no real movement regarding a potential second search.
