So you go through the guys you've got. Obviously, Leota was one of those players. Nathan Cleary is one of those players. Isaiah Yeo is one of those players. Brian Totto is one of those players. Alamotti is one of those players. Mitch Kenny is one of those players. You go through, there's a lot of players. Liam Martin. Liam Martin, Blaise Talangi.
There are a lot of players who Penrith have got coming off contract at the same time who they probably hoped they'd secured by now. But the indication is the players are actually saying, no, we're just going to hold off, wait till November 1 when they are legally allowed to sit down with Papua New Guinea and all our tax-free money and see what they do. And the thing about that, you do your maths, okay? I'll just do some very basic maths for a player. If you're a, say you're a $700,000 a year player, right? So you're sort of pushing rep level, but you're worth $700,000. That's your market value. Papua New Guinea can come in and say, mate, we'll give you 500. And that's what you'll go on the cap at is 500.
But because you're earning it tax-free, essentially it's a million. So that's the advantage they're going to have. And that's how they're going to bloat their roster with so many good players because they'll be able to do it like that. And that's going to be fully legal. So a lot of these players, I assume these Penrith players, there will be other players around at other clubs as well, will sit there and go, well, mate, I'm just going to wait and have a look. And then... Legally, you can basically get this tax-free money at Pumper New Guinea. They can just really stack their roster with quality players because of the advantage that they've got.
It's a risk either way, isn't it? Like Penrith, I look at it a little bit differently in that a lot of these players, like Moses Leota at the moment is 30 years of age. So in 2020, he's 32. Nathan's not getting any younger. Isaiah Yeo's not getting any younger, like Liam Martin. So while... It will be a tough day when Penrith, if they ultimately lose a lot of these guys, at some stage they also have to look to the future too, don't they? They have to be responsible in their planning going forward.
That's true. And how they manage that, we'll wait and see because, as we know, Ivan won't be around to manage that. Matt Cameron will still, we assume, be running the club and he's been very capable in that role. Peter Wallace takes over as the head coach. Look, he's going to be a rookie, we know that. You can have a problem, and we've seen this around various sports around Australia at different times. In the NRL, you look at, for example, when the Brisbane Broncos, they lost Alfie and Kevi, and they all lost them within a few years.
