G'day and welcome to Kenny Blitz, your daily head of NRL News. And Kenty, lots to talk about today, plus our previews. Uh let's start off the top. Murray Talunghi uh has quit the NRL to go over and play French rugby for up to three seasons. Yeah, good on him. Yeah, it's it's look I think it shocked everybody. It came from nowhere. No one had really speculated or knew about it. But look He's the kind of player that will go over there and be successful. He's gonna make good money. I think he was sort of coming to an end a little bit at the NRL. Like he he could have got a few more seasons out, but uh I think yeah, I think it's the right time for him to leave and I think uh well done to him. He's no doubt done a good deal to get uh contract over there.
Uh so well done. It's gonna be interesting what happens to the cowboys, how they handle it. But uh they got some kids coming through that should be able to go okay. Bit of chit chatty might go to the roosters earlier on in the year. The thing I find i interesting about this, Kenty, is with the new broadcast money coming in. Players are still tempted to go to French rugby. Yeah, but was he's probably got another couple of years before that really takes full effect. That that broadcast deal and the salary cap really feels the effects of that. And I dare say uh he he might be he might be well spent by then. So if he's going next season, he he's he's jumping on I don't think the money would be there for him next year in the NRL like will be in the French rugby next year.
So from that point of view, I think uh eventually that will have an effect that the salary cap will be such that there'll be certain players it's just not worth their while going and playing French rugby 'cause they're making the same money here. But uh In the immediate future, uh, I think there's still a benefit to it. The attraction obviously of going to play in France too is is a strong one, right? Well, for m for most people it is. For some people it's terrifying because you've got to go over there, you've got to leave everything you're comfortable with at home, you've got to learn a new language and you've got to be able to navigate your way. And There's a romantic sort of side to it, but there's also a re uh reality side to it.
And people go over there, do get lonely and Uh do have Troubles of acclimatizing and and getting their their way a around and understanding the language and for some some people pick up a foreign language fairly quickly, some people are terrible I'm also uh I'm good mates with a couple of rugby players who used to have been over there, Ryan Cross and Matt Dunning, and both those guys will say how ruthless those French rugby clubs if if you have an injury, boom, you are gone. Uh let's talk about Corey Horsbrough, who signed a deal uh to play over the Perth Bears. Great signing for Perth and probably good for Corey as well, right? Good for everyone involved, yeah. And and the And good for the Raiders.
Good for the Raiders. And uh and look to be fair, look he's on what was it, he's uh I think he's on six fifty at at the Raiders. Uh, he was next year as well, but he's gone to the the Bears for I think seven hundred next season. And then it it's got a ratchet clause in it for the following two seasons. So, uh depending on what the salary cap is. So I i it look he's actually capitalized on the

The blower with rookies turned into more money for him, so well done to him. Uh uh obviously the Raiders had Given you permission to nego to negotiate, hoped he would head off, so he's done that. Uh and I think the Bears needed a like they needed a strong presence in the middle next season. And they they've got a couple of players there that are going, okay, the the negotiations with Junior Barlow don't look like they're gonna go ahead now. Uh that they've fallen over as we speak. It could could be resurrected, but at the moment it doesn't look like it. So Horsbrough's gonna bring them something. A little bit of presence in the middle that that they sorely need.
