0.031 - 21.412 Kim Komando

Hi, Kim Commando here. Well, first up, we have your digital life hack. And after that, I'm going to play a call from my weekend national radio show. You pull into your driveway, turn off the car, and then it hits you. You forgot to put out the trash again. Stop trying to remember everything. I'm Kim Commando for Nord Protect. Identity theft strikes every five seconds.

It uses GPS to remind you exactly when you arrive somewhere. On your iPhone, it's built in. Open the Reminders app, add your task, tap the info button and turn on location. Set it for when you arrive or leave home.

On Android, download the free Tasks.org app. It connects to your Google account and brings back location reminders. Create a task, open the map pin and drop it right on your house. So next time you pull in, your phone remembers, so you don't have to. Again, on iPhone, it's the Reminders app. And Team Android, it's Tasks.org.

Chapter 2: How can I set location reminders on my iPhone?

82.198 - 102.786 Kim Komando

You know deep down those so-called free phones are almost never free. Big carriers stretch the cost of the phone over time with tiny monthly credits, and those only apply if you stay locked into their plan. If you ever want to switch phones or get a new carrier, you're stuck paying off that balance. That free phone ends up costing you your freedom and more money.

140.68 - 142.763 Kim Komando

Thanks for asking. So what's on your mind today?

0

143.114 - 158.394 Nancy

Well, first of all, I want to tell you thank you so much for all your tips, tricks. You keep me on my toes about watching for hacking and spam and all that. Most recently, Consumer Cellular, I switched over to that, and I'm saving $20 a month. Oh, nice. Thank you very much.

Chapter 4: How can I use GPS to remember tasks when arriving home?

165.862 - 191.918 Nancy

But one of the things that you recommended was using AirTags, and I wanted to get a sense for how they work. So I have a cat. His name is Tab for Tabby Cat. And so I got one of the collars that holds the AirTag, and I got an AirTag off of Amazon, off of their website, not a third-party supplier or anything like that. Put it on there, got it set up. I did the play the notification.

He would look around like, what is that noise? Everything was working fine. So anyway, he lost it on December 12th. This was about less than a month after I put it on him. And so I'm like, great. You know, he's lost another collar, but now I'm going to find it. So I get my Find My app out and everything and start searching for it. And it says that it's at my street address, my house address.

217.824 - 217.924 Kim Komando

Okay.

0

218.208 - 233.831 Nancy

I'm like, great. Where at my house? Because there's woods all around and, you know, that's where the cat is. It was definitely not inside the house because he had it on when he went outside. So I walked all around the house and used the little thing to see when I'm getting closer and did the directions.

234.251 - 254.119 Nancy

So it would tell me, you know, I would click on direction and say you're 10 feet and I'd walk up the driveway and say you're there. And then I'd play the sound notification and no sound. It said it's not reachable. And so I'd walk all around the woods, around the house, because we're very wooded up here. It's pretty rural. And nothing.

254.139 - 259.947 Nancy

So I was wondering if you had any tips for me on how to find that darn lost collar.

259.967 - 263.272 Kim Komando

Yeah. I love their tasks. Have you asked the cat yet?

263.292 - 263.352

No.

264.378 - 266.552 Nancy

I did. I asked him, I said, lead me to your collar.
