Chapter 1: What should you do if a mysterious email offers you money?
What would you do if a confidential email landed in your inbox from someone you've never heard of? Most of us deleted. One nonprofit director almost did. That would have been a very expensive mistake. I'm Kim Commando for NetSuite. AI is here and companies using it are ahead. Mackenzie Scott, Jeff Bezos' ex, has given away more than $26 billion since 2019. No application, no pitch deck, no strings attached. Her team does quiet research. A confidential email arrives, a 15-minute phone call follows, and millions hit your account. In 2025, she gave away $7.2 billion to 186 organizations.
That's more than Elon Musk, Larry Page, and Jeff Bezos have donated combined in their entire lives. Know someone who works at a nonprofit? Share this. Sit back and enjoy. The other day I had a chance to sit down with Craig Dubinsky, the CEO of Happy Products.
Chapter 2: How has MacKenzie Scott changed the game for nonprofits?
He's built some of the biggest brands in personal care. So when a guy like that tells me a piece of software saved his company, I listen. Here's what he told me. So you mentioned that NetSuite saved your bacon. What happened there? Well, our last business, Hello, which was, it's an oral care company.
Chapter 3: What unique approach does MacKenzie Scott use to give away funds?
Hello grew and became the fastest selling, fastest growing oral care brand in North America. We were growing so fast that we literally broke another well-known financial platform software. So we made the switch. to NetSuite and we migrated our entire business off of one platform onto NetSuite, which was very scary. And we thought this is going to be this impossible task.
And we did it over a weekend and it was flawless and seamless. And we never looked back. It's the most capable platform we've seen. It's great. All right, Steve Jobs and the fish tank question. This is an amazing story. Back when the engineers presented the first prototype of the iPod to Steve Jobs, he said it was too big. And the engineers were whining, saying, you know what, Mr. Jobs, we can't make it any smaller. We can't make it any smaller. And he said, no, you need to make it smaller.
So they go back, they come back, and they say, you know what, we've made it smaller. We cannot make the iPod any smaller. So he took the iPod, the only iPod that the engineers had in their possession that worked, and dropped it in the fish tank. He proved that there was something wrong with it. It floated to the top because it was mostly plastic, but also air bubbles were floating to the top.
And as the prototype sank, the bubbles escaped from the casing and Steve Jobs pointed them and said, you see those? Those are air bubbles. That means that there's space in there. You can make it smaller. And they went back and they made it smaller. Wow. Could you imagine being the engineer and he drops what you just worked on in a fish tank? That's the only one, man. Don't be doing that.
Can you guess a hacker's favorite letters in the alphabet? Take a guess. What are their favorite letters in the alphabet? lowercase r and lowercase n. Why that? Picture this in your head or try to write it down or look on your keyboard or if you're on your computer or on your phone. If you take the lowercase r and a lowercase n and you smush them together side by side, what do you see?
It looks exactly like the letter M, and it's a trap. Scammers and hackers are using them to fake websites. So instead of Microsoft, they'll register R-N-I-C-R-O-S-O-F-T. And you can't tell that's not really an M unless you look closer.
