What is up everybody? Welcome back to kind of funny games daily for Friday, February 20th, 2026. I'm one of your hosts, Greg Miller, alongside Forbes 30 under 30, AKA New York Game Awards nominated, a.k.a. Leftover Poppy. It's a blessing, Eddie Oye Jr.
You know, I know we put this together in a rush. I'm scrolling through the thing. I think we're copying and pasting the same emails over and over again. I don't know.
I was getting things. This is the most, like... This is a day.
What is the latest news about Phil Spencer's retirement?
Yeah. And so like, yeah, I thought maybe we would get to eat lunch before moving on to the next meeting show, whatever. And so, no, yeah, go ahead and you can clean it up. Sorry. I'm getting things on a back channel over here. So I'm putting in things that I'm getting jazz.
We can just dive into it. We can just let it be out there and we'll read what we read.
Everybody, you are in for a Rick Roland rockin' good time that'll go on for a long time, I'm sure, on a very special and somber Kind of Funny Games Daily. Remember, if you're watching, super chat to be part of the show as we get through all of this insane news. Of course, we couldn't do this without our Patreon producers on patreon.com slash kindoffunny. So thank you, Carl Jacobs, Omega Buster, and Delaney the Somtwining. Can I tell you?
I'm so tired of industry-shaking news. We need, like... Like, can we just, like, you know, show up one day, and it's, oh, we announced a new Viva Pinata. Ah, sick. Let's talk about that. That's rad. Whatever happened to that?
It's more than... And this is not, I swear, me patting myself on the back at all. Roger, if you're watching... We got to get in the hopper, the social video of me going, it's going to get worse, but I do like the days where that was like Tuesday, it's going to get worse, but it'll eventually get better. And then blue point. And then this, and then just the insanity we're dealing with every day, whatever for now, let's begin with what is in forever. We'll be the Roper report. We have one story on the Roper report.
Yeah.
Number one, Phil Spencer is retiring from Xbox. Microsoft AI exec Asha Sharma is taking over the gaming division. This is Steven Totillo at GameFile. Phil Spencer, the longtime head of Xbox and gaming at Microsoft, is stepping down. That move is part of a massive change in the leadership team for one of the big three console makers. Taking over for Spencer as head of gaming at Microsoft will be Asha Sharma, the current head of Core AI at Microsoft, according to Microsoft's announcements about the changeover. Microsoft head of game studios Matt Booty will remain on the team, rising to chief content officer. Xbox president Sarah Bond is exiting Microsoft. Spencer will stay on as an advisor into the summer.
Sharma joined Microsoft in 2024, having previously served as chief operating officer of Instacart. The moves were announced via emails from Satya. Satya. Satya Nadella. Satya. Nadella, Sharma, Spencer, and Booty Today. One more cough from Greg. Also, if you need me to pick up the reading, let me know. We can switch off. Here comes Nadella's email. Gaming has been part of Microsoft from the start. Flight simulator shit before Windows. And you can practically ray trace a line. Okay, go.
Let's see. And you can practically ray-trace a line from DirectX in the 90s to the accelerated compute era we're in today. As we celebrate Xbox's 25th year, the opportunity and innovation agenda in front of us is expensive. Sorry, expansive. Also expensive, though. Yeah, probably. Today, we reach over 500 million monthly active users, are a top publisher across all platforms, and continue to innovate across gaming hardware, content, and community in service of creators and players everywhere.
