Hey everyone, welcome to the Lucky Dogs podcast, episode forty-one. We're really excited to uh have Tom Moore uh with us today. He's a team manager of uh Dick Johnson Racing, Shell V Power uh racing team, which is awesome. And Tom's actually got a lot of history with us too, which is also really cool as well. Some that we can talk about, some that we can't. Correct.
We've had some good times over the year, that's for sure. Obviously, uh for myself, uh Tom was actually my first engineer in supercars. We had uh you engineered me at what was that uh Sydney Motorsport Park in twenty twenty in Super Two? Yeah, it was in the COVID year. Yeah, in the COVID year. So no one could get up there. So you stepped up to my super or were you engineering me all year in Super Two, actually. No, I was the only race. Super two the other year, wasn't it? I think they did a couple. I think we kicked off with Adelaide. We did like three because I think Bathurst maybe as well. And you didn't do the rest of them.
Um after that. No, it was just it was just Adelaide and then it was Sydney. And then it was like no one knew what was going to happen. And then the next round was a couple of months away, but I pulled out by that point. So Tom
engineered me at Sydney and then we went on to do three years together. Yeah. Oh, that's right. We did win that day. Yeah. That was both our first wins at there and then in main game as well. So um had uh had a cool history, obviously for you. Um probably similar to us. We've had a pretty good career over the last four years since stepping up, where yours has been pretty much a rise to the top as well, I'd say, in uh in s different things where that you've done. Um, obviously, you know, engineering me, then you stepped into Djar, did engineered Will there, and then I guess you can probably talk about a little bit throughout this one about how they chose you to um to step up into team manager, which is a pretty big role, I would say, at thirty one with sort of the years of experience that you have.

Yeah. Yeah, it's cool. It's um it's sort of it was always on the cards. I was always sort of what I kind of looking always five years ahead from when I started. It was like I started as a data engineer it's like, right, how do I become a race engineer? And then just emulate whoever I was working underneath that time and then become a race engineer, it's like, right, how do I sort of run a team next and and uh go down that path. So um that was one of the big reasons I explored Yonda DJ R was actually after Ben Croak left, halfway through um 2024. There's sort of been talk of um whether George and Brody are gonna go there or not and that sort of thing. And George sort of floated the idea with me if I wanted to go, and I was like, nah, not really, nah, not really.
And then it was actually when his position became vacant at the time, um, that I thought, well, actually I can see a pathway into that role, even though I knew they wouldn't, you know, give me a job as a team manager straight away. So when I first spoke to them, I sort of strategically went, I want to apply to be the team manager, full well knowing they'd go, no, but you can be a race engineer and then knew that there'd be sort of a pathway up to that point. So yeah, that's sort of how. Yeah. A little bit of a synopsis on how that happens.
