What is the main topic discussed in this episode?

Jamie Whincup 0:02
I've been pretty vocal from day one that there's been differences spoken out on my podcast.
Brodie Kostecki 0:07
It was cool to have both the lucky dogs up there though, right? And I thought we might see if the podcast is still going next week actually after this one.
Jamie Whincup 0:17
Rightio, everyone. We're back in the studio for episode 46, and this one is about the enduro season at the Benz. So bringing a bit of a preview to you, and we're going to go through a few of the pairings and the track changes and all that sort of stuff for obviously heading over this weekend, but big week. Do you know what the new circuit's called? No, I don't. It's the West Circuit. Oh, yeah. I think it's the West Circuit. I could actually be wrong. I was just thinking, I was like, no, it is the West Circuit there. That's right. Yeah, and then did you –
wait.
Jamie Whincup 0:49
Oh, yeah, no, you and I drove the West Circuit actually at the co-driver session in 2020. Yeah, I actually raced it not last year, the year before. In GT?

What makes the new West Circuit at The Bend unique for Enduro racing?

Jamie Whincup 1:00
In GT, yeah. It was actually not too bad in GT because it gave the passing opportunity down into turn six and you're kind of with them with the ABS, you can lunge someone. But I didn't mind it. It's going to be interesting in the supercar, obviously. It creates... It's a tough one. I'm not sure. The Benz... I don't know. It's a hard track. It's just not a Sandown or anything like that, is it? No, that's the thing, is that, like, the tracks that we used to go to, that Enduros used to be at, Gold Coast, Sandown, were such amazing tracks, awesome, produced good racing. And then, unfortunately, you go to Tail and Bend, which, you know, they've done a great job of the infrastructure and building it and everything like that.
Jamie Whincup 1:43
But, you know, at the end of the day, it doesn't really create for good racing. Yeah. I reckon that's going to change. You reckon? I reckon this circuit's going to be a fair bit different. And why do you think? I've watched back a lot of the old races in the Gen 2 car, and the racing was substantially closer on the West Circuit than what it was on the bigger circuit, and those cars cannot follow. Yeah, I think that the, like you say, the old cars were really hard to follow. The only thing about... that makes this West Circuit hard and I think there'd be better racing is if turn five wasn't before turn six. You know, when you get close and if you have, you know, better tires or you've pitted later, but a little bit faster car, generally you get, you still get that little bit of arrow wash through turn five,
Jamie Whincup 2:29
before turn six, and then it's quite hard to actually make the move unless you're substantially faster. So the old track used to be a bit the same. The triple rights, it was super hard to follow through that area. So I don't know. I'm sure it will produce better racing than I'm thinking, but it's not a place that has super high deg or any of that sort of stuff to create the good racing throughout the runs. It might be like AGP, though, where if you follow someone, the car in front just is like spinning out everywhere. That's actually a good point. So I reckon it actually could
be...
Jamie Whincup 2:59
Could be quite good. And turn, Ryland had his rookie test there a couple of weeks ago now, and turn six is pretty bumpy getting in there. Yeah. Really bumpy. I actually did 10 laps at that rookie test because I drove Jackson's car. He was doing the same one. And, yeah, I didn't mind the circuit. There's a few spots that it's like also you're wondering what gear to run, you know what I mean, like after turn six. Yeah, after six you can shift up or stay in limiter. Yeah, you run the right lane. So what are you going to do? Well, I actually don't know yet, to be honest. Probably with your elbow restrictor, you'd have to stay geared down. You probably would maybe just get to the limit. Maybe you can use two gears up.
Jamie Whincup 3:35
Yeah, that's right. I'll be in fourth gear, not second. But, no, it's an interesting one through there and how you sort of run it, whether you let it flow a bit more or hold it tight. So I think a few people will be running different lines there.
