In his speech at Davos, Trump noted that U.S. brokered peace between Ukraine and Russia turned out to be more difficult than he anticipated. After meeting Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced his country, Russia, and the U.S. plan to hold trilateral talks starting Friday in the United Arab Emirates. White House envoy Steve Witkoff and President Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, are now in Moscow for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Here's NPR's Charles Maines in Moscow.
Ahead of the meeting, Putin said he intended to discuss the possible use of Russian assets frozen in the West to help rebuild parts of Ukraine devastated by nearly four years of war. Putin's apparent offer comes amid weeks of intense Russian bombardment of Ukraine's energy infrastructure, including in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev. The attacks have prompted charges Russia is weaponizing winter, with hundreds of thousands of people left without heat or power and sub-zero temperatures. Meanwhile, months of U.S. efforts to negotiate an end to the conflict have bogged down over Russian maximalist demands on Ukrainian territory, as well as Ukraine's desire for ironclad security guarantees from the West.

These harassment guidance was approved by the commission during the Biden administration. It provided employers with the agency's reading of the law explaining what kind of harassment constitutes illegal discrimination. The guidance included numerous examples of harassment based on protected characteristics, such as race, age, and religion, and also included examples of harassment of trans people. As a commissioner, EEOC chair Andrea Lucas voted against the guidance, asserting that it's not harassment to acknowledge that biological sex is real. Now she's led the vote to rescind the 2024 guidance in its entirety. Dissenting Commissioner Kalpana Kotigal said the EEOC was throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
