Why is Bob asking if the Florida Panthers are the Oilers' biggest rival?
Home and O payments are no interest for a year. Let's say you build a legacy. Legacy Heating and Cooling. Under the weather as Kasperi Kapanen and Edmonton has recalled the Roby Arvente from the Miners, the former second round pick of the Ottawa Senators. In 2020, of course, he had knee surgery. He's had a relatively healthy year this year. The Oilers eased him back in the lineup, didn't play him back-to-backs at the start. 17 goals, 36 points, plus 12 in 52 games in the American Hockey League. And over the last month, he's been their best player. And I know because I watch him play. And Bruce Kerlock will tell you that as well. And he's had, again, a fairly healthy year.
How can listeners join the conversation about the Oilers vs Panthers rivalry?
He basically just followed the prescribed plan that the Oilers development team had for him. Back to the question. I mean, Edmonton and Florida, two straight Stanley Cup championships. Is it as simple as this, wherever Matthew Kachuk goes? That's where the hate is. That's where the rivalry is for the Edmonton Oilers. I mean, has the Battle of Alberta been the same since Matthew Kachuk wouldn't resign in Cowtown down in Calgary? Have the Flames been the same since the Edmonton Oilers beat them, came back after Calgary won 9-6 in Game 1? If you had been in Calgary, and I was, you would have thought that the Flames were marching right to the Stanley Cup that year in 2022. And instead, the Oilers came back and won four straight games.
God rest his soul, Johnny Goodrow elected not to stay in Calgary. Matthew Kachuk elected not to stay in Calgary. Brad Treleving, the general manager, made a trade. That trade, Flames got back Jonathan Huberto and Mackenzie Wieger. I actually thought Calgary did pretty good in that trade. I thought they won the trade initially. Maybe I underestimated Matthew Kachuk. I shouldn't have because I can remember back in the 2016 draft year when the Oilers got the fourth overall pick, the current head coach of this team, Chris Doblock, contacted me when he was with Erie and said, you guys have to strongly consider Matthew Kachuk at number four. However, that was the year Yesa Pouliarvi was supposed to go in the top three, popped to number four in Edmonton.
And you take a look at Line A going second and even Dubois going three and then Pauly Harvey four. I don't think any of those three players has panned out quite the way people thought. The guy that went number one, he's pretty damn good.
