Bob. It's always a pleasure being here and uh I always say lu lucky they take bribes, I mean it through law school. Yeah, that's
That's all that's I mean it's and I I mentioned you busted your neck. You didn't even know when you were playing for the for the Edmonton Esk and I the team was called the Eskimos back then, just so everybody knows. Cl yes they're called the Elks now, but they were called the Eskimos back then. You had suffered a crazy injury at the University of Alberta. Correct. It got it did not get diagnosed at that time. Is that what happened?
A fractured skull, yeah. An eight inch crack and my skull had happened the first year they built the butter dome and uh so I played eight or nine years pro. I got a lot of concussions and uh but it's worked out okay for me. So uh so
wait a sec here, but what what ended up happening is you had to retire because they realized that you'd had this past
injury, is that not what happened? That's right. Yeah. So so uh I sorta got my name in the C F L because I started knocking guys out and and uh I eventually started knocking myself out and one game in Montreal I was unconscious for several minutes and uh so they did some bone scans and they found that old fracture and uh said that I probably shouldn't be playing football and at that point I announced my retirement and I went back to law
school. Okay. And why did you want to go to law school? Now your your your father's obviously a prominent uh lawyer here in town as well for a uh decades, but was that part of the
wanted to go back and uh work with my dad and run his law firm and uh and it's all worked out very well for me.
Uh how'd you find you know, you'd you hadn't been in school for a number of years. How'd you find going back to to law? What were you, thirty, thirty one, thirty two when you were a lot?
In my early thirties it's never easy, but uh you know, um when you go back in your mid thirties, you have a work ethic that you likely don't when you're young. Like when I was in university with you, we were drinking a lot more beers than uh than I was when I was in my thirties.
Yeah, we weren't exactly the most disciplined guys. I I actually have more W's for withdrawals than I have completed courses at the U of A. Yeah. Most guys that are in university for six years are called like doctor, and I've got two and a half years worth of courses. So I never I never finished.
So fear fear is a pretty good motivator when you go back in your thirties you don't want to flunk out of law school.
