Hi, Bob. How's your day going?
It's okay. Got in 14,000 steps today after the...
I'm up to 17 days in a row over 10,000.
I might be able to get down to two chins if I continue this by the end
You keep digging hard.
I do recall back to our animated conversations in 2006. I was 40 at the time, and you're like, you know, you got good hair stuff. You might want to drop a couple, or that ring on your finger might be disappearing. Hey, Ryan Rashad was just on. He does the show every Friday at 5 o'clock. So he was bemoaning the fact, oh, sure, Chris goes on the Oilers, Radio Rights Oilers, but he won't do my podcast. What do I got to do?
So I think we should ask. I've been on for Ryan's podcast.
Oh, there you go. He's whining for no reason.
Yeah, exactly. By the way, all he's got to do is ask me. He doesn't ask. All right. Bob, you ask, and I come on.
Yes, that's kind of how it works. He has a rule of thumb, you know. You don't G-E-T unless you A-S-K. You're like, come on, man. That's right. That's kind of how life works. Read between that any way you want.
Anyway, it's
all right so here's the deal since we last talked an injury riddled Edmonton Oilers team and every team has injuries the Oilers were compromised at center they've had two long runs but in the end Connor McDavid said the team was average all season long on two separate occasions both Connor and Leon spoke about not good enough got to be better Leon talked about hey he's here for two years we got we got to get this right And the Oilers elected to make a coaching change. You know, I work for the club. You know that. I'm not in the room. I'm not in the dressing room. I am with the team traveling on the plane and that sort of thing. Sometimes a coach can be the right guy and two and a half years later,
Maybe not the right guy. The orders are clearly going to make a change. I'd just like to get your thoughts. I mean, you've seen a lot of coaching changes over the years. You've seen some good coaches lose their jobs. You've seen some bad coaches lose their jobs. Were you surprised of what shook down?
No, because I think when you think about it, at the end of the day, where there's smoke, there's fire. And I think there's been far too many things swirling around Cristobal. And as we know, you can't change the whole team out. especially in this new NHL with no-move clauses and all the rest of that, where I think every team is seeing those things pose a lot of problems, whether it's a change that's needed or flexibility with respect to trades and making your team better, especially in the short term with respect to what you just talked about with Connor McDavid having two years left and what Leon has said and on and on and on. So I think as you look at Their current roster, the construction, some of that's on Stan Bowman, some of that's on probably Ken Holland and Jeff Jackson.
And so ultimately, you know, you can sit here and you can talk about what has happened or you can talk about what can happen and think about the future. Don't worry about the mistakes that have been made. I mean, they've been made. You can learn from them. But now you've got to go out and figure out what actually can be done. How can you get your team better? Your two top players have said it's not good enough. They need to be better. They have taken accountability, which is the first step.
