All right, we're gonna head off to the River Cree Resort Casino Hotline. Uh we just had Kevin Lowe on to talk a bit about the Battle of Alberta Golf Tournament uh next Tuesday and Wednesday, which is gonna take place in Red Deer, uh, and then the Glenn Anderson Day of Golf, which will take place Thursday. Uh on Wednesday, I'm heading off to Wainwright for a celebrity hockey game, and we are gonna uh uh hook up with former Edmonton Oilers farmhand and he was a hard nosed tough player in major junior back in the day. He currently trains a lot of the kids out of the Wainwright Irma area. Well we're joined by Adam Huxley. Hello Adam, it's Bob. How you doing?
Hey Bob, how's it going? It's it's gonna be hard to follow up K Lo. Um, I got a lot of respect for him, he's such an awesome guy and what a legend. Yeah.
Well, you're a bit of a legend too, as I recall. You uh I would call you an undersized tough guy because you would fight the heavyweights and as I recall you're uh uh you know, like a six foot, six foot one, two hundred pound guy. So how does a guy have the the length of uh minor pro career that you had? You played for a number of years. My man the Chisler has texted me out of Las Vegas where you played there as well back on the coast. But How does a guy survive that long uh in that role? Uh, because you weren't uh one of those guys that was a six foot four, two hundred and forty pound behamath.
Um, well you know what? You're you're very smart. Um y you gotta train to fight like that. Uh all your gym workouts, all that kind of stuff have to kinda play uh uh play into that role. But yeah, you gotta you gotta do a lot of boxing, gotta do a lot of things, but you gotta be smart. I mean your your goal in a fight is to hit people and inflict, but you also don't wanna get hit. And I and I worked extremely hard on that. Um yeah, I mean the the one year the funny s I'll tell you a funny story. So when I went to Euler camp that year, the very first year I was my own agent, so I sent in a letter and uh to Kevin Pendergrass and and he brought me in and um I I came in and I basically fought my way in into main camp and uh kinda like you don't wanna go up for a coffee if you're one of the scouts because you never know w what's gonna happen kind of thing.
Um I was as a live wire, so to speak. Yeah. Um but but yeah, no, it it w it was an amazing experience. But uh Kevin and those guys were awesome to me. But yeah, no, y you gotta you gotta train to fight like that. But sometimes you're actually at an advantage if you can get inside 'cause it's hard for a a taller, lengthier guy if he doesn't have your strung out to punch you. And if you got some good inside dirty boxing skills, it's good. Uh I learned a lot from Nathan and Nick Diaz. I trained with them quite often. Um Stockton so friends of those guys and and that helped out
lot as well. How much of uh the training that you did with those guys? Because you guys uh you run you run the conditioning camps currently with and d now are you partnered with Mike Susi Carson's dad or or what's the 'cause there's a there's a surprising amount of kids these days coming out of Wayne Wright Irma. So you guys must be doing something right. Uh how long have you had this thing going with the conditioning?
Um, I've had it going even while I was still playing a little bit just in the off season.
