I'm doing all right. How are you guys doing tonight?
Did good. Yeah. It's all good. The day after the exciting Colorado Avalanche game. Now that we've had a day to digest it, what did you think of that one last night?
Well, it's funny. I think along the same lines as you did, and Bob, because I talked to Bob after the game, more so than what I have. We had a lot of callers on our show last night. They were angry. And disappointed. And I was thinking, well, to me, that last night's game was a glass half full type game. They played a very good Colorado team. I'll be without a couple of really good players as the Oilers were missing some as well. But to me, it was a continuation, guys, of what the Oilers have been doing lately, and that's playing good defensive hockey. They're giving themselves a chance. They're in every game. They're not giving up the odd man rushes. They're not making the big mistakes. The goals against are down.
Their goaltending has been consistent. And they're doing it without two of their best offensive players. that would make a difference on the offensive end. So to me, if you have a Leon or a Hyman in the game, you don't need them to be there to win a game 1-0. You need them to get that one extra goal. and to help on the power play. And I went with Bob the other day. I said that the Utah game, having Hyman and Leon in the game wouldn't have helped when they lost that game 6-5 because they scored enough goals. They weren't good defensively. But all these other games, the 1-0 loss, the 2-1 shootout loss, You think if they play that good defensively and you add Leon and Hyman, what they can do five on five and certainly what they would do on the power play, you're pretty confident that you're going to find a different result at the end of the game.
So I felt, guys, very positive after the game that the Edmonton Oilers have found their game defensively and that bodes well going into the playoffs.
Yeah, the defense is playing incredibly well, but the goaltending that this team is getting from Connor Ingram right now, I mean, in three of his last five starts, he's put up a minimum of a 950 save percentage. 31 of 32 yesterday. What are you picking up from him, and how solid has he been, and how crucial has he been for this Oilers group over this stretch?
Well, he cleans up mistakes, and there's always going to be a mistake, even if your team's playing well. No team plays a perfect game. He's consistent. He looks confident. And I can tell you from experience that when I played and I had a confident goaltender, It gave me confidence as a player because there's no fear of making a mistake and you can play, you know, a little freer knowing that, okay, if something goes wrong, he's got our back instead of that jittery feeling you have on a bench that, oh, we can't mess up at all because our goalie is not stopping beach ball tonight.
