football on off the ball but I just think there's very little wiggle room for success at Celtic and I know Hart's at the top of the league at the minute and could easily go on to win it but I think if you win the league and you win the cup at Celtic the fans are still going to be saying well we need success in Europe join in the obsession subscribe now at offtheball.com forward slash join football on off the ball with William Hill who you got 18 plus see gamblingcare.ie
What happened in the Liverpool vs Tottenham match?
We've just watched Liverpool and Tottenham play out a one-all draw. Liverpool had the lead for so long, but you just felt that they needed the second goal. They didn't get it and that man came back to haunt them for Charleston.
Yeah, I think their first half display was gold, was convincing.
Why did Liverpool fail to secure a win against Tottenham?
It only looked like one team was ever going to win the match if you were just watching off the first 45 minutes. And second half, I was really fully expecting them to put two or three past Tottenham after watching that first half display and then you're looking at what Tottenham had on the bench and how little they had to try and change the game. It's just not how it played out though.
How did Richarlison impact the game for Tottenham?
Liverpool were very, very passive even when they were in the attack into that final third, no cutting edge. And Guillermo, to be fair, God love him. He got tired very, very quickly in that second half and he was probably their only shining light. When he came off, there wasn't really much.
What were the standout performances in the match?
There was a few half chances from Salah, Ekotike, but they just lacked that cutting edge, lacked that bit of intensity in that final third. And to be fair to Tottenham, they knew exactly how to get the better of Liverpool at certain times, and it was by going direct. They had them two strikers up top, proper, proper handful, Richarlison, Solanke, so aggressive, getting forced contact so many times, not exactly where they were, a great link-up play between the two of them. And as you say, yeah, that man again, he pops up, Richarlison, late on in the game, and really, really poor defender from Liverpool, like Robertson, he looked out on his feet and you could see that in his attempted clearance for that goal.
He just puts it on a play for Colin Moane and he just slides it in for Charleston who has a slight bit of luck in the sense of his finish but he's in the right area, right space to get a shot off a goal.
Yeah, and Richarlison probably got rewarded for his afternoon. You know, he had a couple of chances in the first half.
What challenges does Liverpool face in the remaining season?
He had a really good chance with his head. He was just a pest all day. And you can see why he's in the team.
How are Tottenham managing their relegation battle?
I know obviously they have a lot of injuries, so needs must and all that. But you could see why if you're in a relegation battle, you'd want him in there because he's a fighter. You think back to when Everton survived, he was key to that as well.
He's a goer. He wants to go out there and have a good go of it. He's angry all the time. He's got that South American groan where he just wants to get after things. It's exactly what he's done today.
What are the implications of this draw for both teams' futures?
You were talking about his headers there. He had one from a corner kick as well in that first half. Obviously the one that came from the left side as well and he was very unlucky with it, he probably just didn't get a good enough connection on it just wide of the post in that first half. But everything about him is like 100 miles an hour, it's 100%. He's not afraid to get physical as well and he got his rewards then in the end.
Just on Liverpool now, eight games to go. Top five should be enough. They're up to fifth place. They had a chance to go fourth. Villa seem to be sliding the wrong way, but they have to go to Villa Park, Liverpool. Chelsea lost last night. They have to play Chelsea at Anfield. United are in the driving seat for, looks like, third place now. They have to go to Old Trafford. They've Brighton as well. There's some really tough fixtures to go. If they don't finish in the top five, like you look at that squad that needs more investment, which seems crazy when you think that they pumped 450 million in.
