Hello and welcome to the latest episode of the Koi Gig podcast Gabby McNee here with you to look ahead to what is an absolutely crucial couple of matches for the Irish international team as they look to face Poland both away first in Gdansk on Tuesday and then at home in the Aviva on Saturday in their bid to qualify for next year's World Cup in Brazil this has been the window that i think since the moment that the the games were announced and the the general group that we were in was announced uh people have been looking forward to and players themselves have been looking towards just as poland would be considered the the team that are a to ourselves which doesn't guarantee anything at all as we saw in the last international window two brilliant performances but sadly no points for Ireland whereas Poland did manage to pick up a point against Netherlands so while these games were important before they're now more important than ever joining me to look at these two games is Scarlett Heron Scarlett how are things
All good, yeah. Quite enough week with the international break, obviously. But yeah, really excited for these two games. I think, as you said, the team that's probably closest to us in our little group of deaf that we have ourselves in. So excited to see how we get on.
Yeah, it's hard to know how to feel going into these games because I think after the last window, despite the results, you know, me, yourself and Karen were talking about it and we were all quite positive. You know, we were disappointed not to get anything from them, but in terms of performances, in terms of... You know, certain players kind of showing up on the big days, like Emily Murphy getting player of the match in both games. There was a lot of positives to take away, but I suppose it's been difficult having that time in between because now we're like... Have we held on to all those positives? Sometimes we can be better going up against the big teams that we, by all accounts, shouldn't really perform against compared to the ones that maybe we should do as, well, the ones that we should probably beat or at least draw against.
Yeah, I suppose the main thing with playing against the bigger nations is that there's probably not a lot of pressure on the girls. You're going out with that underdog attitude, which I think the Irish teams in every code strive under. So yeah, I suppose just getting used to that. It's not that we're not going to be underdogs in this game either. I'd say Poland, or I'd say they're above us in the rankings anyway, but it's going in with an attitude of, okay, we actually... we're going to have the ball a bit more in this game. And we spoke about that when we were playing Belgium as well, playing that sort of opposition that are closer to us and how do we approach that sort of game it's obviously going to be a different game plan to that against France or Netherlands but here I think there's a lot to get after with Poland another good team like Iwa Pajor is obviously their standout and she's been on fire the last few years for Barcelona so it's going to be a tough evening for the centre-halves and the defenders to keep her quiet but I think then Poland have a lot to
have a lot of weaknesses that we're able to exploit as well. Even when you look at the goals conceded from their two games against France and Netherlands, obviously they got the draw against the Dutch.
