If he has a great year, that'd be great. And we'll try to pay him a lot of money. And if he's mad and he goes somewhere else, well, then we'll have to live with that and we'll get another quarterback.
Well, Herm, do you think it's harder on the player or on the team being the star starting quarterback and not knowing what the future will be?
Well, look, one of their better players left. He's in San Francisco, Evans. And David, you know, they lost two good players. So I think this franchise is looking at it at itself internally and going, okay, are we the team going forward with some of these older players that want a lot of money? Or do we just say, you know what? Hey, maybe we're going to head in a different direction. So that's an organization decision. The head coach never likes it. The head coach never likes losing good players. No doubt about that. We know this. When Baker Mayfield is mad, it seems like he plays at a different level. So they're going to get him at his best now if they don't get his contract done.
Well, Herm, if you're Ty Bowles, speaking to the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and you hear that Baker Mayfield audio where he calls into question the organization's commitment to him and says he's been told one thing and the organization is doing another in negotiations, I mean... How much do you have to sort of play some damage control there as the head coach, given the fact that your quarterback, and really your only quarterback, because they don't have a depth chart that speaks of a second option, is clearly disconcerted here?
Well, yeah, and that's the problem. And they're looking at the numbers, too, when you think about Tampa Bay Buccaneers. To be quite honest now, if you really want to look at the numbers... This was the 21st ranked offense in the league. They were only scoring 17 points a game. That's not a good number last time I checked. No. I mean, 17 points? No, no, no. NFL? No, no, no, no, no. That's not quite where you want to be, right? So those numbers are glaring, obviously. You know, Baker Mayfield had a pretty good year, 26 touchdowns, 11 interceptions. So they're looking at this team and going, you know, we've gotten kind of old at certain positions. I mean, they got a really good football player in Evans, right?
I mean, he's like Mr. Buck, and he's in San Francisco now. So I just think this is an organization, and everyone knows it.
