Go. And welcome into Purple Access Saturday edition. It is Judd, it is Chip. We are in the dog days, although the lead up Chip Scoggins to training camp right around the corner here. Two weeks from uh uh Tuesday. So a week from Tuesday they will be uh they will be reporting for the at least I think the veterans. Anyway, so I thought to myself Well, first of all, this starts off with you sent me a note yesterday that you were w working on something about training camp and quarterback competitions. And then I thought to myself, well, it's the dog days. And we we sort of went down this path a little bit last week, but I was looking back and the last training camp in Mankato is now two thousand and seventeen, which is incredible.
Like we're gonna be the ten years next next summer. Um so it's uh it's there's a Lot of p people m more and more that probably don't really remember uh some of the stuff. And I wanted to talk to you s since we were both on the beat together, I wanna talk to you about like just the whole training camp thing and how it's changed and what Mankato was like because it's so corporate now and You know, players go. I mean there's the bicycles are gone. Players if they stay stay at that gorgeous hotel across the street in Egan. Um so what stands out to you when I say the Vikings in Mankato?
That's when it felt like a actual training camp. And to haven't to have covered it Mankato and then covered it here, it it just feels like two completely different vibes. And I I think not only just for media but for fans too. Um Mankato, you were getting away. And even though it was, you know, where depending on where you live in the metro, I mean it was it was, you know, you're getting away. It wasn't like you're just driving across the metro to go watch the Vikings practice. Fans made trips of it. I remember going down one sixty nine and you would see the hotels in different towns there to say, Welcome Vikings fans and people would would make um You know, that a little mini vacation they would go down, stay in a hotel.
You know, back then you had two days and two days were open. So you'd have a morning practice. People would go have lunch at one of the, you know, the Chipotle or Jimmy Johns or whatever and then they would come back for the afternoon practice and autograph sessions.
