Hello and welcome into Thor Talks Purple. It's a Thursday edition. AJ, I'm coming back from two days down training camp in Eagan. And I'm excited to get back here because we have another full mailbag with a bunch of interesting questions from the audience out there. So let's hop right in.
absolutely first one right off the top of the bag is going to be from josh mcglattery who says i have an interesting question thor from initial reports it sounds like as if kyler is starting to separate himself from jj mccarthy that being said it does not sound like it is due to exemplary uh exemplary play by kyler should kyler get injured early in the season does this beg the question we'll be uh looking at a similar production from what we saw from jj last year should he need to play or like i guess to expand on this where where have you seen on the development potentially from JJ McCarthy so far through these opening days of training camp.
Yeah, well, to the first one, the thing that is separating a little bit, we talked about this on the Thursday episode that we were live on just a little bit ago here on Thursday, but is the reps, the first team reps. I'm sorry. The overall reps have been pretty even. Yesterday, McCarthy had one more than Kyler, like overall. But the first team reps, of course, documented with the charting of – I think yesterday was maybe Kyler had 11 more first team. And I think the day before it was nine and it does seem to be, that seems to be increasing. You know, we were wondering that the non padded week, if that was just kind of to get Kyler more familiar, but it, it looks like that that's just the way it's going to be because on the field, there hasn't been a ton of separation and it's been pretty close.
I mean, no matter who you listen to with regards to that, but it, it, there was the theory, the supposition that the coaching staff, that this was a predetermined outcome. And I think that's what we're seeing play out on the practice field. What was the second part of the, of that question?
I guess the second part is just my kind of branching off there. And, you know, the question is from Josh, what sort of production are you looking at? If JJ McCarthy does get that chance to step in, given some sort of Kyler Murray, you know, like, you know, injury or something that kind of paved the way. What sort of production is he looking at? And then like, what have you seen from JJ?

What sort of development and progression have we seen since the last time we saw him on a football field?
Well, I've seen improvement with J.J. in a couple different areas. He looks more accurate. He's been hitting guys on the hands out. There are some errant passes for sure, but I'm talking overall over the entire sample of everything we've seen. And then the blaring, we've seen a little bit more of that. Some of the nuance with some of the throws, we've absolutely seen that out there. And then the progression thing is still reading the field regularly. quick is still the thing that is like a point of emphasis for him. I have seen growth in that area as well, even though, again, it needs more. But an area emphasis that the team had for JJ in this camp was it went back to that thing O'Connell was talking about last year of string together the completions.
Want them more quickly to go from the read, not there, and then where's the outlet guy, right? Right. And so you've been seeing some of that stuff. But, yeah, overall, you do see some developmental steps forward with JJ. And we'll just see where that ends up going. And, yeah, I mean, if you know the opportunity during the fall, we'll just see. But statistically, no, for either of those guys, they they'll outdo what was done last year for myriad reasons. The offensive line is going to be a lot better overall. The receiving core, instead of the in-and-out thing that they had at the beginning of last year, Jefferson coming back from missing August, Addison being suspended at the beginning of the year, no showing in Europe, Adam Thielen being acquired five days before the season.
