Let's rip the Band-Aid right off. You've been out there a bunch. Your handicapping of the Vikings quarterback competition between J.J. McCarthy and Kyler Murray. Where do you land on what you've seen so far?
Well, I agree with most observers who've seen it that Kyler's ahead at this point. I wasn't there Saturday, but it sounds like that was his best day. Yeah, it was great. I was floating on a lake in northern Minnesota. I apologize. Smart man. Smart man right there. I didn't see that, but there's been more, I think, high moments for him than their struggles i was there on monday it was when the the two minute was not good uh across the board so but i i think as we said from the beginning if as long as as kyler doesn't just fall flat if he shows that he has that comfort like we talked about like And you're seeing him start to develop some of that chemistry with Jefferson, with Addison. And so I just think he's pulled ahead now by a long stretch.
That's up to the coaches. But based on what I've seen, my amateur eyes, I feel like he's ahead at this point.
You know, it's funny, Saturday he was really, really good, and it felt like there had been a couple situations on Monday and Tuesday when that... the two Mitchell to end the practice on Monday from McCarthy standpoint was awful. It was two passes broken up. And then the third one was picked off. I think all three of them could have been picked off, but the third one was picked off. And so it's like, okay, you know, if Kyler can get in here and tap in the putt, he's going to take a firm lead. And he went over three yesterday. There, there was, it was weird chipper McCarthy. His biggest struggles might've come throwing on air. I'm not joking. So there, there was a drill that, you know, there you're throwing on air to receivers and it was in the end zone nearest to where our purchase and he, he missed on a wheel route for Aaron Jones badly.
And then airmailed like two balls in the back of the end zone, like on air. So there's no defender there. And it's like, oh my God, this is, you know, not good again. And, and then he settled down and Kyler didn't play especially well. I didn't think so. I can't decide if this is a close competition or if this insistence on not giving one of them all the first team reps is just a massive mistake.
