We had Kevin O'Connell and Nolan Teasley talking to the media. We have Todd about the quarterback competition. We had Adrian Peterson getting into the Ring of Honor. And your Minnesota Vikings open practice today on Wednesday. Football is back, AJ.
Oh, my God, Thor. Pulling back the curtain a little bit here. Before the show, we pressed record and everything. We had our little powwow that we do. It's like five minutes of back and forth or whatever. But we both shared the same expression of over the last 24 hours of preparing for a show today, there's fresh news. There's multiple talking points. There's all these other things, and it's just like – we're fully back in it.

Boy, are we thirsty. You know who can maybe quench that thirst, though, because of a big contract extension for himself? That's right tackle Brian O'Neill, who recently inked a new four-year deal with the Vikings. Deal's worth $96 million. It's going to keep him around for another four years with the Minnesota Vikings. I want to hear your reaction to Um, what actually very timely was Judd's modest proposal on Tuesday and then quickly turned around, I think within the next three hours, like, Hey, guess who's extending with the Vikings? Mr. Brian O'Neill.
Yeah. It was almost like Judd was a soothsayer with that thing. He, he gave the modest proposal. Then he went to the team facility and him Judd texted me like an hour later and he's like, Brian O'Neill signing an extension. It's like, oh, sweet. You know? It was right off of that. Now, Judd and I had talked about three years, $70 million, something around there. And O'Neal ends up getting just slightly more with one more year. The AAV on 370 would have been 23.3. The AAV that O'Neal got on four years, $96 million, $24 million. So, you know, right there in the ballpark, that makes Brian O'Neal the 10th highest paid offensive tackle in the NFL, and I believe the second highest AAV right tackle in the NFL.
We can have a discussion about discrepancies between left tackle and right tackle salaries sometime in the future, but I I think that this is a pretty solid deal to get one of the NFL's premier tackles locked up. You now have O'Neal locked up through 2030. You have Christian Derrissaw locked up through 2029. So the very good bookend tackles that the Vikings have, have them years into the future. It also looks like through this deal that the Vikings are going to be opening up some cap space here through the Brian O'Neill extension by restructuring some of the non-guaranteed base pay that Brian O'Neill had this year into the signing bonus that will be spread, the guaranteed signing bonus that spread over the life of the deal.
So it's looking like they're going to save $10 million or a little bit more in cap space. Is that going to get put back into the roster here? We talked about the edge rusher, and Nolan Teasley was specifically asked about the addition of a potential edge rusher during the press conference. But you do have a little bit of money there now that's opened up. But as for Brian O'Neill... Kevin O'Connell called him a pillar of the organization yesterday. Very well said. That's exactly what he is. Second-round pick, 62nd overall in 2018 out of Pittsburgh, and he's started dang near every game since then. It turns 31 in September, two-time Pro Bowler, of course, and we're looking forward to more Pro Bowls out of Mr. Brian O'Neill going forward.
Yeah, this – it's hard to wake up or just react to that news and bah humbug. Like I can't believe they get – this seems like the most no-brainer of an extension for a guy who I think if my memory is correct or if my research on this is correct off the Google search, I think he now is like the longest tenured member of the Vikings barring a return from Harrison Smith.
