I go through my post-show production duties as I do. I get it up to YouTube and on our podcasting platforms, and I smash publish. I'm like, all right, let's go about the day. Let's ease into a nice Tuesday here. Boom! Cannon blast. Adam Schefter, breaking news, hits the timeline. Kevin O'Connell announces that Kyler Murray... is named the starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings.
Yeah, it was pretty stunning timing there. It was right after Judd and I had done our modest proposals coming off that Sunday night practice where Kyler Murray had struggled, and then you had the off day on Monday. And, you know, Judd's sort of take on it was – You know, even though it's sort of been even to this point, you have to pick a path. Right. And my point was sort of if it's a legitimate quarterback competition, you now kind of have to even the first team reps. And that had been the question, obviously, all offseason since the signing of Kyler Murray back in March was like, is it the open? Is it going to be the open competition that the Vikings and Kevin O'Connell are sort of depicting? Yeah.
because of the circumstance there early on in camp, that question was going to get kind of smoked out there. And then we got the timing of that announcement yesterday, which, yeah, sent sort of a – not the announcement itself, not the winner of it. We expected Kyler Murray to be named the starter. Eventually, it's just the timing coming off of arguably what was his worst practice of the summer on the Sunday night practice.
And that is the thing. I think I just in terms of like being ready because that like that's part of it with this job. I go through during the wild season like I was not ready when they traded for Quinn Hughes, but that stuff blockbuster kind of came out of nowhere or whatever. Like you said, I think the expectation in the long run is that Kyler Murray was going to. but I think in, at least in my view of it was going to be after like a notable separation, you have different media personalities saying like, Hey, starting to pull away.
