And this is, uh, I believe yesterday. as that'll have to wait until I'm done with my day job and walking the pups tonight. But could I get your thoughts on spending a high-ish pick next year on a running back? I'm bearish on Claiborne, and I do not expect him to make the 53-man roster.
While I do think people underrate Rodgers and Mason a bit, and I'm assuming they meant Aaron Jones, not Aaron Rodgers, but we obviously need a game-changer in the backfield. What are your thoughts on using a high-ish pick, according to Deep State Hypnotoad? on a running back next year.
I think that that's in play. Deep State Hypnotos may be a little bit lower on DeMond Claiborne than I am, but either way, the top two running backs in that room, you're entering the last year of your contract. I don't think the Vikings love where the state of the running back room right now. There was a thought that that was going to be upgraded when they started the offseason, and it just didn't work out that way. That's why they circled back to Aaron Jones on the pay cut thing, and they found a mutual agreement with that, but They weren't able to upgrade the running back room like they thought they were going to be able to this past offseason. I do think you'll see that next offseason. That absolutely could come in the form of a running back taken in the draft.
The running back class 2027 is a lot better than the 2026 running back class that we just had here. And as far as early options there, folks that watch the show know that I'm on the Jaden Baugh train from Florida.
We haven't talked about many guys behind him, though. Who are some of the guys behind Jaden Baugh that you're like, definitely worth an earlier pick.
The, my number two running back heading into the season is a mod Hardy, uh, from Missouri. Um, a mod Hardy is like a supercharged version of Jordan Mason. Um, the, he's a really, really good meat and potatoes runner. Um, it's the, the past catching stuff is what we're still working on with a mod Hardy, but, um, doesn't get much better than him between the tackles and just as a pure runner in college football. Um, Kiwan Lacey, you see he's the guy we talked about him before. He's RB1 on a lot of lists out there. I have him more like 3-4, you know, as far as the RBs heading into the season. Isaac Brown is another one that I point out from Louisville, although his skill set is probably a little bit superfluous with Claiborne's because he's a smaller home run hitter.
And when you're thinking about like a mix and match guy for for Claiborne probably wouldn't be Isaac Brown. But L.J. Martin's a guy probably more like round three. L.J. Martin comes from BYU. He's a big hammerback, but isn't quite as athletic or the skill set as well rounded as Jaden Bob. But he's still a really good player. Those would be some guys that I would toss out for that if you're going to go earlier on in the draft. Guys that potentially their skill sets could work with Claiborne's. But yeah, I think either way, you're going to see a much bigger investment in the running back room next offseason than you did this offseason. And again, this offseason, they intended to. It's just it didn't end up working out.
Sticking on the running back... I guess I'm sticking on the running back topic here.
