It's a Tuesday edition, which means we have the sports to add in for our modest proposals. Judd, the Vikings are in the news, and I'm going to get to that with my modest proposal. But before we get to that, let's hear yours.
Okay, here's mine. And I think the Vikings might do this, so it's a proposal that actually might come true. But... So second round pick Jake Golday is going to start his career playing off-ball linebacker, i.e. inside. And he's obviously going to get the majority of his reps there. But we also know for a fact that they see him as being the long-term replacement for Andrew Van Ginkle. in that Van Ginkle role. And if you look at their physical builds and abilities, Jake Golda is the closest to mirror what Van Ginkle can give you as far as a guy that can drop back into coverage, as far as a guy that can tip the ball. The great thing about Van Ginkle's role is you don't know what he's going to do. So my modest proposal is very simple.
And that is, while I understand that Golda is going to need time at the position they plan for him to play this season, off-ball linebacker, in training camp, I think you need to get him reps also in that Van Ginkle role. And here's why. I don't know if there's anybody else on this roster that can play that role. And as we learned a year ago, when Van Ginkle got hurt, which by the way, he does, he's not young, when he gets hurt, or when he got hurt, they put Dallas Turner in that role. And Dallas Turner didn't look good there. And I think we were all rightfully so like, boy, this guy's a first round pick. What's Now, when Dallas Turner got a chance to replace Grenard at the other edge, he looked very good because that's a pin your ears back and rush the quarterback spot.
But the reality was this, that Van Ginkle role is very tricked up. It's not your typical edge rusher. It's a very specified role. And the majority of guys that rush from the edge are probably not adept or comfortable at going back into coverage, at doing all the things that Van Ginkle does. So if and when Andrew gets hurt, I think Golde is gonna have to be plugged in there. I don't know, unless you're going to re, unless Brian Flores is gonna re-image that position to become more of a traditional edge position, which he did not do for Turner. So I have no reason to believe he's going to do it for, if Van Gogh gets hurt again, he's suddenly going to say, let's make this a normal edge spot. Jake Golday, to me, is going to need time to learn that spot, to be comfortable at that spot, because I think you have to assume Van Ginkle is going to miss time again.
So let's cut to the chase here, and let's get Jake Golday reps at the Van Ginkle position, because if something happens there, I don't know who else can replace Andrew Van Ginkle.
And you're talking about in 2026, and of course, after that, that just goes without saying, right?
