Rahimi, Harris & Grote Show

5 On It & does Caleb Williams need to do less? (Hour 3)

27 May 2026

Transcription

Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?

0.031 - 3.476 Layla Rahimi

This hour is brought to you by Menards.

0

3.996 - 11.146 Mark Grote

Save big money at Menards. That's what Marshall would do.

0

11.166 - 18.816 Unknown

Yep. It's time for five on it. Rahimi Harris and Brody bring you five topics on their minds today. On 104.3 The Score.

0

20.753 - 43.237 Bruce Levine

According to 104.3, the score is Bruce Levine. The Cubs had both an 11 and a 12-game losing streak in their brutal 2021 season. The Northsiders reached their single-season loss record of 14 games to begin the 1997 season. Will the Cubs reach any of these high-water marks during this current losing streak that is at 10 games?

0

43.518 - 49.444 Bruce Levine

Are we in danger of seeing them surpass the single-season loss record of 14 games?

Chapter 2: What are the main topics in the 5 On It segment?

49.762 - 55.328 Layla Rahimi

So not to be that girl, but I have to. Are they high watermarks?

0

55.728 - 57.31 Bruce Levine

Low watermarks, whatever.

0

57.39 - 58.431 Layla Rahimi

Whatever you want to call it.

0

58.511 - 70.824 Bruce Levine

Maybe I can't think of any. Skid marks. More like skid marks. Maybe my brain for adjectives is suffering because I'm suffering through bad baseball. Go, Ray. Go. Don't stop now, boys.

0

70.844 - 76.09 Layla Rahimi

You know what? I can't believe I'm saying this. It ends today.

76.913 - 77.394 Bruce Levine

I like that.

77.414 - 96.696 Layla Rahimi

It's Marshall's birthday. It's Pat Hughes's birthday. Jamison Tyone is facing his former team. And I don't necessarily know that that matters because he's been giving up some home runs. But I just, this has got to stop. Or I don't know. Or else. And then I shake my hand at a cloud. That's where we are, though. And then tomorrow we're like, okay.

96.877 - 100.12 Mark Grote

There's no logical explanation for any of it. So it is just.

100.14 - 114.236 Layla Rahimi

Oh, there is. And that logical explanation was you should never let go of Kyle Schwarmer. Okay. Yeah, I said it. Layla, give me one person who makes the lineup make sense that the Cubs used to have. Ta-da.

Chapter 3: What improvements do Bears coaches suggest for Caleb Williams?

335.067 - 339.213 Unknown

Javier, you're saying hams? Ham, ham, like ham.

0

339.413 - 339.773 Mark Grote

Like ham.

0

340.114 - 341.716 Bruce Levine

Like, you know, it makes more sense when you say ham.

0
0

342.838 - 349.126 Layla Rahimi

That is a situation I would also like to enter into the too many or how many bears category. I feel like it should happen.

349.226 - 354.173 Mark Grote

Write all that down. Just let's get, let's continue to fill the- We keep a Google Doc for this reason.

354.153 - 354.794 Layla Rahimi

Fill the bucket.

Chapter 4: Does Caleb Williams need to do less on the field?

355.735 - 371.958 Mark Grote

We also like if texts or folks on Twitch, if you have a how many bears question, we bank them. 312-644-6767. We'll pick through them. And if you've got a question, maybe you'll be chosen on a random Wednesday to receive bears from me.

0

371.978 - 375.963 Layla Rahimi

815 says cubs are in a slag heap right now.

0

375.984 - 376.404 Mark Grote

They are.

0

376.825 - 378.507 Layla Rahimi

Slag heap is a very operable term.

0

378.487 - 398.237 Mark Grote

It's one of the worst slag heaps they've had. I mean, and again, I mean, the only other team that has had this scenario, two 10-plus game winning streaks and a 10-plus losing streak, your 2017 Dodgers, which went to the World Series and lost to the cheating Houston Astros. So tomorrow, the Cubs will break their... Just win today.

398.357 - 399.218 Layla Rahimi

I'm tired of this.

399.378 - 402.543 Mark Grote

Okay. I'd be for you being right, but I think it's tomorrow.

402.563 - 403.785 Layla Rahimi

I don't think I'm right either.

406.111 - 416.069 Bruce Levine

Number two. Does White Sox right-hander Sean Burke deserve the Mark Grody he deserved better award for his effort in last night's 5-3 loss to the Twins in extra innings?

Chapter 5: What is the significance of Jamison Tyone's performance against his former team?

462.032 - 482.894 Layla Rahimi

So, Joe Ryan was starting opposite Sean Burke. And I'm like, hey, why do you guys still have Joe Ryan, Minnesota Twins? Shouldn't you have traded him last year when you traded away your entire flipping team? So... Sean Burke did deserve better, but unfortunately his team did pretty well. It was one of those games where it was just exciting all the way around. There were some baseball happenings.

0

482.914 - 491.113 Layla Rahimi

You know, there was a comeback, but everybody just dueled each other. And then it went to 11 innings and the dam broke. So I don't know. I think maybe not.

0

491.228 - 516.549 Mark Grote

I'm with you. I think it was all... It got pretty good. It was appropriate. It was all appropriate, I think. Anytime I see a pitcher with a 7 by his name, I'm always impressed. Moreover, when I see a 100 by his name, as in pitch is thrown. That's really impressive in this day and age. It didn't used to be, but in the last seven to ten years, it's very, maybe not even that long.

0

516.569 - 530.467 Mark Grote

It's very impressive to see a guy go seven innings, and that's exactly what Sean Burke did while allowing his two earned runs, eight strikeouts while we're at it, to just two walks and three hits. So he was excellent, but I think it was appropriate. It was. It did feel like. two different games.

0

530.527 - 539.658 Mark Grote

It was kind of boring from the White Sox perspective until the Murakami two-run game tying homer in the eighth inning. The Niko Nishida or the Riku Nishida.

539.678 - 542.901 Layla Rahimi

See, you're doing it now too. Niko Horner Nishida.

543.022 - 543.542 Mark Grote

It's tough.

Chapter 6: What are the implications of the Bears bringing in a veteran pass rusher?

543.562 - 545.384 Mark Grote

It's tough out here. It's because of the Cubs.

0

545.484 - 550.911 Layla Rahimi

It's all because of the Cubs. Also, dare I say, did we see a pitcher's duel last night?

0

551.552 - 552.573 Mark Grote

I guess you could say that.

0

552.733 - 570.441 Layla Rahimi

I think we did. You're a little obsessed with Joe Ryan. I just don't know why he's still there. If I'm a GM, I would have traded for him already. I'd be like, oh, hey, Twins, I see you're getting rid of your entire team here at the trade deadline. What do you want for Joe Ryan? I could use that guy.

0

570.461 - 576.574 Mark Grote

29 years old, been playing for five years. Absolutely. He's right. I point that out to say he's in his prime, folks.

576.634 - 578.779 Layla Rahimi

I don't know why he's still there.

579.164 - 584.334 Mark Grote

Well, honestly, that probably is somebody the Cubs might be knock, knock, knocking.

584.354 - 588.001 Layla Rahimi

If I am Jed Hoyer, I've been on the phone about Joe Ryan.

588.041 - 592.45 Mark Grote

Right. I'm not giving up on Freddy Peralta either, and I'll never, ever give up on Jordan Alvarez.

Chapter 7: How does the Cubs' recent performance affect their season outlook?

1020.378 - 1041.399 Unknown

Number five. Okay. A video is going viral of Bryce Harper brushing his teeth. And in this video, Harper begins his tooth brushing routine by squeezing the toothpaste into his mouth directly from the tooth instead of onto a toothbrush. So I asked the question. Not including Bryce Harper, of course. Who does that?

0

1041.88 - 1059.483 Layla Rahimi

Psychos! What the heck are we doing? Bryce Harper, I always knew you were a little wired differently. Like, we knew that. We knew that Bryce Harper was not your average dude. But this is an extreme just blank you to society and norms.

0

1059.723 - 1064.509 Unknown

What is this rink on Will Levis with the mayo and coffee and the eating banana with the peel?

0

1064.489 - 1080.675 Layla Rahimi

There's something very rebellious about this, and I can't put my finger on why. Especially because I feel like Bryce Harper is not... I feel like he will question authority or question the idea of something, but I don't feel like he's purposefully rebellious like that.

0

1080.995 - 1081.977 Mark Grote

He just is what he is.

1082.718 - 1099.363 Layla Rahimi

Right. He's rebellious against the score of a baseball game. He's like, I'll hit a home run. We'll see about that. But I feel like in this nature, this is... This is unhinged. I feel like this is his, you know, screw you to the man, if you will.

1099.543 - 1116.231 Mark Grote

That's right. I do my toothpaste different. I go toothpaste first. I will admit, because I said to you guys backstage, I think I probably have done that before. And now I remember having done it a couple times in my life when you get to the end of the toothpaste and you don't have the backup and you're trying to get every... Have you ever cut open your...

1116.211 - 1122.365 Layla Rahimi

Every single container of a tube I have, whether it's sunscreen, makeup, I cut everything open.

1122.385 - 1123.348 Mark Grote

Scrape it, right.
