Chapter 2: What were the circumstances of Harold Holt's disappearance?

And then when rescuers finally reached the boat, their efforts caused parts of the boat to break apart and finish sinking into the water. A story for another day, to be sure. But that's kind of how this beach got its name. Interesting, because it's kind of a traumatic origin story for this name, right? I would have thought it's like, oh, there's some... Explorer stumble down into this grotto.
It's nice, it's pleasant. Right, no, not so much. Okay, so Harold Holtz was at the beach that day with his neighbor Marjorie Gillespie, her daughter Viner and two friends, Alan Stewart and Martin Simpson. So Marjorie, Alan and Martin all noted just how rough the waters were that particular day. However, Holt was an avid and strong swimmer and decided to enter the water for a swim regardless.
Now reportedly, Holt was so into swimming and taking this stuff so seriously that he would actually practice holding his breath during Parliament as a way to strengthen his lungs and his diaphragm and kind of improve his swimming when he went on his frequent snorkeling trips.
